Patent number: 5915550Abstract: A case and tray for holding two high-density media recording devices, commonly known as compact discs or CDs, on opposite planar surfaces of a tray molded of brittle, transparent polystyrene. The tray will fit in a conventional case, commonly called a jewel box, adapted to receive a tray for holding only one compact disc. An insert is disposed at each side of the tray and each has an outwardly extending pin disposed thereon. The pin is arranged to fit into retaining openings in sidewalls of the conventional case into which the tray will be fitted, whereby to hold it in place. A pivot point is disposed between the sidewall and the planar surface. A frangible membrane having a thickness approximating the thickness of flashing is arranged with the pivot point. The frangible membrane is arranged to hold the tray and the inserts as a single unit until the tray is fitted into the case and is arranged to break so the tray can swing, thereby allowing access to both sides thereof.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1998Date of Patent: June 29, 1999Inventor: Kaj Gartz

Patent number: 5896730Abstract: A double-sided plastic tray (12) for holding two compact discs. The tray has a disc-receiving surface (35a) on its face and obverse sides and a tray opening (61) is disposed thereon. A hub (50) comprising an array of tabs (51) is disposed on the surface (35a). Proximal ends of the tabs are attached to-the tray opening (61) and distal ends can reciprocate within the tray opening (61). Prongs (54) are disposed on one side of the distal ends and reciprocate with the tab (51) when they are engaged by the internal rim (60) of a disc and grasp the internal rim (60) to detachably and resiliently hold one compact disc. Shoulders (55) are disposed on opposite sides of the tabs (51). Shoulders (55) reciprocate with tabs (51) when prongs (54) are engaged by the internal rim (60) of a second compact disc to inhibit lateral movement of the second compact disc held by prongs on the opposite side of the surface (35a) and inhibit breakage of the tabs (51).Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1997Date of Patent: April 27, 1999Inventor: Kaj Gartz

Patent number: 5558220Abstract: A case and tray for holding at least one high recording density disc. The case comprises a base (14), a cover (11) and a tray (12) for carrying at least one disc is disposed within the case. The tray (12) has a generally rectangular shape and is adapted to fit in the base (10). A cylindrical hub (50, 60) having a locking side and a spring side is unitarily formed and centrally located on the tray. Lips (51, 61) extend from the locking side of the hub (50, 60) and the underside of the lips (57, 67) are spaced from the tray (12) at a distance not less than the thickness of the disc. The portion of hub between the tray (12) and the lips (57, 67) is rigid. Springs (53, 63) are disposed on the spring sides of the hub (50, 60). The springs (53, 63) are adapted to move inwardly when engaged by the center hole of the disc as it is forced over the lips (57, 67) and onto the hub (50, 60) to hold the disc on the hub between the lip (57, 67) and the tray (12).Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1995Date of Patent: September 24, 1996Assignee: Owen J. Patent number: 5476106Abstract: A method of destroying and storing a cannula adapted to contact bodily fluids. According to the method, a cannula having at least one sharp point is disposed in an operative relationship with a reel which is fitted in a housing, A portion of the cannula extends exteriorly of the housing and is slidably disposed within an aperture in the housing. A portion of the cannula that is disposed within the housing engages the reel when it is turned and bends the cannula to destroy it and simultaneously commences drawing the cannula into the housing through the aperture to store it. The turning is continued until the point is fully withdrawn into the housing. When fully withdrawn, the point(s) of the cannula snap against the inside of the housing and provide a sensory indication that they are fully withdrawn.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1991Date of Patent: December 19, 1995Assignee: Owen J. Patent number: 5392954Abstract: A device for delivery of fasteners having heads with tenons disposed beneath the heads to an insertion tool. The device includes a sloped track with two spaced-apart rails each having a fastener receiving surface to receive the undersides of the heads of the fasteners falling thereon. The fasteners drop onto the track from a rotating barrel and some are correctly aligned with the tenons between the rails and the undersides of the heads resting on the rails and many are misaligned. The fasteners slide to an orienting station which includes a plurality of fluid injector ports disposed around the track. Two of the ports face each other and a third port is disposed over the track. Blasts of air are directed through the ports sequentially so that misaligned fasteners on the track are forced into alignment or are removed from the track thereby leaving only properly aligned fasteners to proceed.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1993Date of Patent: February 28, 1995Assignee: Gartz & White Inc.Inventor: Kaj Gartz

Patent number: 5084019Abstract: A hypodermic syringe having a cannula with a point that can be safely destroyed and stored. A portion of the cannula is disposed within a hollow housing that has a reel fitted therein and a portion extends externally therefrom through an aperture in which it is slidably received. A portion of the cannula is disposed in the reel whereby to enable a user to turn the reel, wrap the cannula around the reel to destroy and store it. When the point is fully retracted into the housing, the point can snap against the inside of the housing and provides sensory indications that it is fully withdrawn. The axis of rotation of the reel is at right angles to the cannula.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1991Date of Patent: January 28, 1992Assignee: Owen J. MeeganInventor: Kaj Gartz

Patent number: 5084020Abstract: A disposable device for the use, destruction and storage of a cannula useful for placement in blood vessels. The device includes a housing for the cannula with apertures through which the cannula extends and is slidably disposed. The cannula is fixedly disposed through a reel that is fitted in a cavity in the housing. The reel has an axis of rotation at right angles to the cannula and turning the reel wraps the cannula around the reel to deform, destroy and store it. The points of the cannula will be withdrawn into the housing through the apertures. When the points are fully withdrawn they will snap against the inside of the housing to provide sensory indications that the device can be handled safely.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1990Date of Patent: January 28, 1992Assignee: Owen J.
