    Abstract: Spherical carbon material or a spherical activated carbon is prepared from an admixture of pitch, amorphous carbon and a viscosity-controlling agent by the process comprising the step of heating and extruding the admixture into strings, cooling and cutting the string into fragments, introducing the fragments into hot water to obtain spherical particles of the admixture, removing the viscosity-controlling agent from the spherical particles, infusibilizing the spherical particles and carbonizing the spherical particles and further activating the carbonized spherical carbon particles.
