  • Patent number: 5002260
Abstract: A fence construction includes a first transverse rail having a plurality of first mounting locations, each for mounting one of a plurality of pickets. Each mounting location of the rail has vertically and horizontally spaced opposing first and second surfaces, and each picket is provided with corresponding oppositely directed first and second surfaces, an downwardly directed first surface for engaging a respective first surface of a mounting location and a second surface for engaging a respective second surface of the mounting location. The diameter of each picket is selected to be less than the spacing of the respective first and second surfaces of the mounting location to allow an inclined picket to pass therebetween and thus be located on the rail. A second transverse rail is provided for retaining the pickets in a substantially upright orientation and for retaining the first and second surfaces of each picket in engagement with the respective first and second surfaces of the mounting location.

  • Patent number: 4625948
Abstract: A picket fence construction has a first, transverse rail and a plurality of pickets adapted to be mounted in the rail. The pickets are hung by means of a tongue and engaging link arrangement. The rail includes a tongue for each picket, and each picket includes an engaging link, or the tongue and links are reversed. The pickets are held by retaining means. This can be a second rail which engages the pickets by a tongue and link arrangement operating in the opposite direction. Alternatively the retaining means is a capping rail.

  • Patent number: 4162861
Abstract: A structural joint for joining two elements comprises a malleable deformable flange on the first element and an elongate arcuate recess in the second element. The recess is adapted to receive the flange and allow the flange to be deformed therein into at least a portion of a coil where the entrance to the recess is less than the size of the formed coil. The recess is characterized in having a leg, the extremity of which defines one side of the recesses' entrance. The flange has next to it a tongue portion where a gap defined between the flange and tongue portion is of a size adapted to receive the leg of the recess in a manner to provide an interference fit between the tongue portion and the leg. The leg of the recess has an overturned part which overlies a portion of the coiled flange and has an abutment which abuts a side of the tongue portion. A method for making such structural joint is disclosed.
