Embodiments assign a first frequency band to the first preamble and assign a second frequency band to the narrow band packet. The second frequency band is a first sub-band of the first frequency band. Embodiments transmit the packet by transmitting the first preamble across the first frequency band and transmitting the narrow band packet across the second frequency band. The narrow band packet includes a second preamble and narrow band packet data.

    Abstract: Two methods for energy-efficient idle listening enhancement for WLAN systems are provided. The first method performs a change of operation of a station (STA) from an active mode to an idle listening mode without notifying the change to an access point (AP) associated with the STA. In the idle listening mode, the AP may transmit frames to the STA using a higher bandwidth, but the STA can only sense channels in a lower bandwidth to save energy. The second method transmits a frame to the AP associated with the STA to notify the AP the change of operation of the STA from the active mode to the idle listening mode. In the idle listening mode, the AP may transmit frames to the STA using the lower bandwidth, and the STA can only sense channels in the lower bandwidth to save energy.

The updated transmit power is determined to be a maximum transmit power that meets one or more target transmit metrics, such as EVM and spectral mask, when the device transmits based on the known parameter values and across a range of variations of the unknown parameter values. The device may adjust its transmit power based on the updated transmit power periodically.

    Abstract: A wireless communication device and method for operating the same for mitigating interference in a wireless communication network are provided. Generally, the method includes sensing with the wireless communication device pulses of electromagnetic radiation recurring within a band of frequencies used by the device for communication of signals, identifying the pulses as interference, and determining a number of frequencies of the interference within the band of frequencies used by the wireless communication device. Next, a sensitivity of the wireless communication device is reduced upon sensing one of the pulses and repeated at a frequency corresponding to the frequency of the interference. Thus, a spectrum of electromagnetic radiation around the wireless communication device is perceived by the device as free of interference, enabling it to transmit and/or receive more often. Other embodiments are also disclosed.
