Abstract: The invention provides methods and arrangements for screening membrane proteins. The arrangement comprises a first fusion protein comprising a membrane protein present in a boundary layer such as a wall of a cell, liposome or vesicle fused to one member of a binding pair and a second fusion protein comprising an intracellular ligand of said membrane protein fused to another member of the binding pair, in which the binding pair is capable of generating a detectable signal.
