  • Patent number: 11678946
Abstract: An apparatus for calibration of a robotic arm having an end effector of a robot includes a magnetic coupler having a body, a receiving face, a mounting member, and a magnetic portion. The mounting member is configured to fixedly connect to the end effector of the robotic arm. A mechanical digitizer probe having a ball and a handle are provided, where the ball is fixedly attached to a distal end of the handle and the ball is removably coupled to the magnetic coupler via the magnetic portion on the receiving face to form a rotatable ball and socket connection, and where a proximal end of the handle is adapted to be attached to a mechanical digitizer associated with the robot. A method for calibration of the robotic arm of a robot is also detailed.

  • Patent number: 9788985
Abstract: The present invention relates to an impedance modulation device for an orthotic application. The device includes a high-stiffness loading spring, a low-stiffness return spring, a shaft having an output connector, and an engagement mechanism. When the engagement mechanism engages the shaft, the device exhibits a high stiffness at the output connector, and wherein when the engagement mechanism disengages the shaft, the device exhibits a low stiffness at the output connector.

  • Publication number: 20160175134
Abstract: In certain aspects, the present invention is a purely mechanical stance control orthosis, or stated differently, a weight acceptance control orthosis, as it stabilizes the impaired knee joint during the first 40% of the gait cycles termed as the weight acceptance phase. The device employs a tri-stable fixture to lock/unlock a friction-based latch to provide two levels of stiffness. The device is locked during the weight acceptance phase to stabilize the impaired knee joint for an orthotic application or avoid collapse for a prosthetic application, and is unlocked during the rest to allow free rotation. The device includes an engagement fixture, a locking mechanism, a chassis, and a frame. The engagement fixture controls the locking mechanism to lock and unlock movement in the chassis and frame in response to a wearer's weight load and is capable of locking at any angle.
