  • Publication number: 20060123895
Abstract: Provided are a drive head and a personal atomic force microscope having the same, and the drive head includes a cantilever provided with a bend detector and for moving a probe, a drive head for moving the cantilever up and down, and a scanner for moving a sample in x- and y-axis directions. The cantilever has a simple structure provided with the bend detector, and the drive head and the scanner are bi-directionally movable and have a large displacement due to the elasticity of the flexible hinge. The personal atomic force microscope has little hysteresis or creep due to its high linearity. Therefore, there is no necessity of a separate sensor system for calibration, and it is possible to obtain a desired image through a single initial calibration.

  • Publication number: 20060123441
Abstract: Provided is a small form factor optical/magnetic disk including an integrated metal hub and a disk plate. The integrated metal hub includes a circular upper metal hub and a circular lower metal hub integrally formed with and disposed under the upper metal hub. The circular lower metal hub has a smaller diameter smaller than the upper metal hub. A central hole is formed in central portions of the upper and lower metal hubs and passes through the upper and lower metal hubs. The disk plate has a through-hole that is formed in a central portion and is directly associated with the integrated metal hub, and a recess that is formed around the through-hole and allows the upper metal hub to be mounted therein. Since the central portion of the small form factor optical/magnetic disk is not thick, the small form factor optical/magnetic disk can contribute to an ultra thin small form factor information storage device. Also, since manufacturing processes are simple, price and quality competitiveness can be enhanced.

  • Publication number: 20060123437
Abstract: An ultra-small optical/magnetic head actuator includes: a swing arm movable in a horizontal direction (tracking direction) and a vertical direction (focusing direction) and having mounted thereon a head for reading and writing information on a disk. A tracking actuator moves the swing arm in the horizontal direction (tracking direction) and a pivot hinge adjusts a radius of rotation of the swing arm and guides the movement of the swing arm in the tracking direction. A focusing actuator moves the swing arm in the vertical direction (focusing direction), wherein the focusing actuator includes a focusing coil attached under the swing arm and a Halbach magnet array disposed under the focusing coil minimizes thickness. Friction or backlash can be avoided, and non-repetitive errors can be reduced. The thickness of the ultra-small storage device can be reduced due to the use of a Halbach magnet array.

  • Publication number: 20050078411
Abstract: The present invention relates to a head for recording/reading optical data and method of manufacturing the same. The present invention completely buries an aperture with a material a third non-linear coefficient of which is great in order to induce self-focusing. Thus, the present invention can reduce the amount of beam by about one half wavelength and focus the beam in a parabolic shape having almost no optical loss. Therefore, the present invention can improve the transmissivity of the probe by several hundreds times compared to a conventional optical fiver probe, by effectively exciting a near-field scanning optical microscopy for the aperture at an end portion of the probe.
