  • Publication number: 20040230753
Abstract: Apparatus and techniques for automatically allocating storage space among classes of applications and/or users in a shared storage environment are proposed. In one illustrative embodiment, such apparatus includes: (i) a plurality of per-class controllers, each per-class controller being operative to determine a cache space allocation for its corresponding class based on a current measured hit rate and a current cache space allocation for its corresponding class; and (ii) a contention resolver coupled to the plurality of per-class controllers and operative to resolve cache space allocation in response to conflicting requests from at least two of the per-class controllers.

  • Publication number: 20040019781
Abstract: Several deterrence mechanisms suitable for content distribution networks (CDN) are provided. These include a hash-based request routing scheme and a site allocation scheme. The hash-based request routing scheme provides a way to distinguish legitimate requests from bogus requests. Using this mechanism, an attacker is required to generate O(n2)amount of traffic to victimize a CDN-hosted site when the site content is served from n CDN caches. Without these modifications, the attacker must generate only O(n) traffic to bring down the site. The site allocation scheme provides sufficient isolation among CDN-hosted Web sites to prevent an attack on one Web site from making other sites unavailable. Using an allocation strategy based on binary codes, it can be guaranteed that a successful attack on any individual Web site that disables its assigned servers, does not also bring down other Web sites hosted by the CDN.

  • Patent number: 5471268
Abstract: The character imprinting device employs an LED for emitting a light through a mask having characters of various colors thereon for imprinting on a film. In one embodiment, a focusing unit is provided for focusing the light emitted through a lens through a data display plate for imprinting of characters onto a film. In still another embodiment, use is made of a rotatable data display plate which can be manually actuated via a gear on the outside of the camera. A carrier is also provided for housing a data display plate between two interengaged transparent covers.
