    Abstract: An exemplary server system includes an enclosure, a number of server groups, a number of fan rows, and a fan indicator system. The fan indicator system includes a number of fan control boards (FCBs), a baseboard management controller (BMC), and a terminal device. One FCB is connected to one of the fan rows to read rotational speeds of the fans of the corresponding fan row, and encodes the read rotational speeds to indicate positional information of the corresponding fan row and positional information of each fan on the corresponding fan row. The BMC receives and processes the encoded rotational speeds to determine whether the fans work normally. When at least one fan is determined to work abnormally by the BMC, the BMC outputs the encoded rotational speeds of the abnormal fans. The terminal device receives and displays the encoded rotational speeds of the abnormal fans.

    Abstract: A server system includes a number of fan control units, a number of fan rows, a determination module, a control module, and a digital display unit. One fan control unit corresponds to one fan row. Each fan control unit reads a rotating speed of each fan mounted on a corresponding fan row, and encodes the read rotating speed positional information of the corresponding fan row and positional information of the fan on the corresponding fan row. The determination module determines whether the read rotating speed is within a predetermined rotating speed range. If the rotating speed is out of the predetermined rotating speed range, the determination module outputs the code of the one rotating speed to the control module. The control module controls a digital display unit to numerically display the code of the rotating speed.

    Abstract: A protection system includes a baseboard management controller (BMC), N fans, a power on unit, a power supply, and a switching unit. The switching unit includes an AND gate, a transistor, and a first resistor. During operation the fans each output an operating signal to the BMC. The BMC counts the operating signals received. When the count is less than N, the power-off pin outputs a low level signal, so that the output pin of the AND gate outputs a low level signal, and the transistor turns off. The power supply then receives a high level signal and stops supplying power.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method controls a speed of a fan in a computer. The apparatus includes a signal generator, a signal buffer, a signal switch, and an integrated baseboard management controller (IBMC). The IBMC includes a general purpose input output (GIPO) pin and a signal output port. The IBMC determines whether the IBMC operates normally by detecting a voltage status of the GIPO pin. The signal generator generates a first pulse width modulation (PWM) signal according to a system temperature of the computer when the IBMC does not operate normally. The IBMC generates a second PWM signal to according to the system temperature of the computer when the IBMC operates normally. The signal switch controls the speed of the fan according to the first PWM signal or the second PWM signal.

Recognizing the two temperature sensors, determining a temperature difference between the two temperature sensors and obtaining a comparison result. Selecting one stored table according to the comparison result and acquiring fan running data recorded in the table. In addition, controlling the at least one fan to rotate according to the acquired fan running data. When a motherboard of the server is in one installation direction, the server selects corresponding fan running data and controls the at least one fan to rotate according to the two temperatures of the two temperature sensors installed at the two opposite ends of the motherboard. Therefore, the server can get a good heat dissipation effect in two installation directions of the motherboard.
