  • Patent number: 4673447
Abstract: A metal strip is supported under static gas pressure by using an apparatus which comprises a pair of gas pressure pads facing each other and located symmetrically about a predetermined moving path of the metal strip, each gas pressure pad having an opening through which a gas is ejected toward the moving path of the metal strip, and means for supplying a gas under pressure to each of the gas pressure pads, each opening being in the form of a closed channel which is composed of a pair of lateral slits, each lateral slit extending in the lateral direction of the moving path of the metal strip, and two or more pairs of longitudinal slits, each longitudinal slit extending in an inclined direction to the longitudinal direction of the moving path, and connecting therethrough to each of the lateral slits, the opening being formed symmetrically about a longitudinal center line of the front surface of the gas pressure pad, drawn parallel to the longitudinal axis of the moving path.

  • Patent number: 4491506
Abstract: Electrolytic treatment of a metal strip with an electrolytic treating liquid carried out using an apparatus comprising a device for feeding the metal strip; a device for delivering the metal strip, which device is arranged downstream the feeding device in such a manner that a horizontal path of movement of the steel strip is provided between the feeding and delivering devices; a pair of electrode devices spaced from and facing each other through the horizontal path of the metal strip and each extending in parallel to the horizontal path, each electrode device having an electrode and static pressure liquid pad located in the electrode, each static pressure liquid pad being provided with a slit nozzle for ejecting an electrolytic treating liquid toward the corresponding metal strip surface under conditions adequate for producing a static pressure of the electrolytic treating liquid ejected therethrough between each electrode device and the corresponding metal strip surface to an extent that the metal strip is s

  • Patent number: 4477316
Abstract: The present invention relates to preparation of insoluble electrodes having few surface defects and long life. The process for the preparation of electrodes comprises coating the surface of an electroconductive, corrosion resisting base metal (1) with at least one member selected from the platinum group metals and applying laser beams having energy density of 1 KW/cm.sup.2 or higher to the coated surface at a laser energy of 10 Kjoule/cm.sup.2 or less, thereby improving said surface due to its rapid heat treatment.

  • Patent number: 4369211
Abstract: A hot dip galvanized steel strip in which the zinc based alloy coating exhibits a satisfactory appearance and is firmly fixed to the strip substrate, which strip is produced by a process which comprises coating at least one surface of a steel strip with a melted zinc based alloy controlling the weight of the melted zinc based alloy coating and; solidifying the melted zinc based alloy coating and which process is characterized in that the zinc based alloy contains 0.1 to 2.0% by weight of magnesium and in at least a portion of a stage in which the melted zinc based alloy coating is still in the fluid state, the zinc based alloy coating is exposed to an oxygen-controlled atmosphere containing 1000 ppm or less of molecular oxygen, the controlling procedure for the weight of the melted zinc based alloy coating being carried out in the oxygen-controlled atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4310403
Abstract: A metal strip is electrolytically treated by using an apparatus having:a vessel for defining an electrolytic treatment space for a metal strip;a plurality of conductor rolls arranged along a path of movement of the metal strip extending through the treatment space;at least one pair of electrode pads, each pair of electrode pads being located between two conductor rolls and being spaced from and facing each other with the path of movement of the steel strip therebetween, and each pad being provided with at least one slit through which an electrolyte is ejected toward the surface of the metal strip under conditions adquate for creating a static pressure of the ejected electrolyte sufficiently high for holding the metal strip in its path in the gap between the electrode pad and the metal strip, and;a voltage supply for applying voltage between at least one of the conductor rolls and the electrode pads.
