The electrode terminal has an inserting portion extending downward in a columnar shape on a lower surface of the stepped portion, and a protrusion in a non-circular planar shape that goes around the inserting portion. The sealing plate has an opening, and has an upper surface and a lower surface on which a non-circular sealing-plate recessed portion and a sealing-plate protruding portion are formed. The gaskets have a shaft portion inserted through the opening of the sealing plate, and a protruding portion that engages the sealing-plate recessed portion and a recessed portion that engages the sealing-plate protruding portion.

An inserting part 43b extending from the electrode terminal 43 is inserted through these elements so that the elements are integrally tightened. The insulating gasket 42a is provided with a protruding part 42a1 having an appropriate horizontal section shape, and the sealing plate 41 adjacent to the insulating gasket is provided with a recess part 41a that has been formed in a shape corresponding to the protruding part 42a1.

    Abstract: A manufacturing method for a battery, including the steps of: preparing a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate which are both belt-like; performing a curving work onto an end of at least one of the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate so that the end has a curvature, the end being located in a longitudinal direction of the plate; and after performing the curving work, performing a winding work by winding the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate with a separator there between all together to produce an electrode assembly. In the winding step, the winding work is performed such that the end having the curvature is wound last in the winding work and such that the curvature curves toward an internal side of the electrode assembly.

    Abstract: The present invention relates an enclosed cell and fabricating methods of the cell which has a safety valve mechanism for releasing gas from inside the cell when an internal pressure of the cell rises to an excessive degree. The characterizing feature of the invention resides in the use of a resin packing as sealing element, junctions between the resin packing and a metal lid and between the resin packing and a polar terminal being closed tight by thermal fusion. This construction assures reliable sealing in normal state, and permits the packing to break with an excessive rise in the internal pressure thereby to release gas from inside the cell. The cell of this invention is readily fabricated by injection molding or by a hot press process. Therefore, the enclosed cell according to this invention is fabricated very rationally and inexpensively, assures excellent sealing and safety, and has wide application.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a sealed type battery provided with a safety valve and a method of manufacturing the same, the sealed type battery of the present invention has a mouth-sealing plate, provided with the safety valve, serving as a terminal of one polarity, being arranged through an insulating member in a hole of a metallic cover closing an opened portion of an exterior can serving as a terminal of the other polarity, and an extension of a hole edge of the metallic cover being cramped to the insulating member to fix said mouth-sealing plate, whereby the cramping diameter can be reduced in comparison with that of the conventional battery, and as a result, the high hermeticity can be given to the battery and the electrolyte can be completely prevented from leaking.
