The facsimile makes connection with a communication destination according to Session Initiation Protocol to perform facsimile communication with the communication destination via an IP network. A first connection sequence of starting call connection using a session of performing image communication is executed, and then a second connection sequence of starting call connection using a session of performing voice communication is executed. When one of the first connection sequence and the second connection sequence fails in the call connection, the other of the first connection sequence and the second connection sequence executes the call connection.

Abstract: There is provided a technique of, in a communication apparatus capable of executing facsimile communication by a deemed voice scheme, enabling generation of a communication error to be prevented regardless of a voice encoding scheme used to encode a facsimile signal. To achieve this, a communication apparatus (first FAX apparatus) establishes a voice signal transmission session with the second FAX apparatus serving as a partner apparatus in FAX communication for FAX communication by the deemed voice scheme. The first FAX apparatus determines a voice encoding scheme which is used in the established session to encode a FAX signal into a voice signal. In accordance with the determination result, the first FAX apparatus limits modulation schemes usable in generation of the FAX signal when performing FAX communication by the deemed voice scheme.

Abstract: There is provided a technique of enabling an operator to confirm partner information in a communication apparatus capable of executing FAX transmission via an IP network, without mounting a new function in a partner apparatus in FAX transmission. To achieve this, when a communication apparatus (IP FAX 1) accepts input of partner information representing a partner apparatus (IP FAX 2) in the FAX transmission via an IP network, it transmits an SIP session establishment request to the partner apparatus. When the communication apparatus receives a response to the session establishment request from the partner apparatus, it prompts an operator to confirm partner information contained in the response before the start of the FAX transmission.

Abstract: Disclosed is a facsimile apparatus equipped with an automatic answering telephone function, as well as a communication method in this apparatus. When a tone signal from a line is detected after the start of storage of a voice message in response to an incoming call, the voice message presently being recorded is not counted as a received message and a voice message received next is stored in the area in which storage has just been performed. Further, when a DTFM signal, which is a control signal of the automatic answering telephone, is detected, a transition is made to facsimile communication in response to a CNG signal. Thus, erroneous operation in facsimile communication due to a CNG signal recorded in the automatic answering telephone is prevented.
