Patent number: 8505058Abstract: A synchronization mechanism embeds synchronization triggers into a television signal or stream at regular intervals. The triggers include an accurate representation of the time in which the triggers were embedded. A receiving device decodes the triggers and synchronizes its internal timer based on the triggers. In this regard, the receiving device obtains a reference time from the internal timer and computes an offset between the reference time and the trigger time. The computed offset is then applied to the reference time. With the receipt of each new trigger, the application compares the trigger time to a new reference time with the most recently computed offset value applied. If there is any variance between these two values, the application creates a new smoothed offset.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2011Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Ericsson Television Inc.Inventors: Jon Dakss, Paul Milazzo, Karen Sarachik, Allan Kotmel, V. Michael Bove, Jr.

Patent number: 8356329Abstract: A system and method for adding hyperlinked information to a television broadcast in which an interactive content icon is used. The broadcast material is analyzed and one or more regions within a frame are identified. Additional information can be associated with a region, and can be transmitted in encoded form, using timing information to identify the frame with which the information is associated. A receiver displays the annotation information associated with the video signal in response to a viewer request on a frame by frame basis. The interactive content icon can be used to inform a viewer of the presence of hyperlinked information, for teaching the viewer how to use the system, and for informing the viewer about the hyperlinked information.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2007Date of Patent: January 15, 2013Assignee: Ericsson Television, Inc.Inventors: Dan Katcher, Andrew Miller, Jon Dakss, Josh Wachman, David Rose, V. Patent number: 7913286Abstract: An ITV application definition language (ADL) used to generate ITV applications for different types of target platforms and devices. The ADL provides a plurality of core data structure types upon which one or more data structures may be built. Data structures storing ITV content presentation and behavior information are referred to as resources. A resource is associated with a globally unique identifier that allows the data structure to be efficiently stored and retrieved from a hash table. A resource is also associated with an expiration time stamp that indicates when the resource is to be freed from memory. A resource is of arbitrary length, and contains values that differ from the default values stored at a receiving client device. Resources are also packaged into a module that may be catered to a platform and/or profile of a receiving client. The client may quickly determine whether the module is relevant to it by examining the platform and/or profile ID contained in a header of the module.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2005Date of Patent: March 22, 2011Assignee: Ericsson Television, Inc.Inventors: Karen Sarachik, Jon Dakss, Jeff Gorder

Patent number: 6639624Abstract: A machine vision method for locating a leaded electronic device, such as integrated circuit chips, includes searching the image with a template depicting only a portion—e.g., one or two “side” edges—of each of one or more of the leads expected on the device. The template can include portions representing expected leads, as well as unexpected leads or unexpected lead positions. Positive and negative weightings are applied to such portions, as appropriate. A location of the device, or of one or more of its leads, is based on the results of the search.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2000Date of Patent: October 28, 2003Assignee: Cognex CorporationInventors: Ivan Bachelder, Karen Roberts, Aaron Wallack, William Silver, Edward Collins, Karen Sarachik

Publication number: 20020078446Abstract: The invention features a system and method for adding hyperlinked information to television broadcast system. The system includes a video source providing video information and an annotation system. The annotation system generates annotation data to be associated with the video information and generates annotation data timing information. The hyperlinked broadcast system also includes an augmented video information transmission generator that receives the annotation data, the video information, and the annotation data timing information. The augmented video information transmission generator generates an augmented video transmission signal including the annotation data, the annotation data timing information and the video information. In operation, the augmented video information transmission generator associates the video information with the annotation data using the annotation data timing information. A receiver displays the annotation information associated with the video signal on a frame by frame basis.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2001Publication date: June 20, 2002Inventors: Jon Dakss, Paul G.
