Abstract: A system for surgical suction and/or irrigation is provided that can be rendered stiff or flexible. In some embodiments, the system comprises a rod and two flexible and substantially coaligned conduits. A second conduit of the two substantially coaligned conduits can be sealed on a distal end and can have an inner diameter larger than or equal to an outer diameter of the rod. The rod can have a modulus of elasticity of at least 1 mPa. The second conduit can be configured to admit the rod while surgically inserted in a patient and without being removed from the patient. At least a first portion of a first conduit of the two substantially coaligned conduits can be bonded or coextruded to at least a second portion of the second conduit.
