  • Patent number: 6763011
Abstract: A method and an arrangement are provided for timing a change of diversity weights in a radio connection between a base station and a terminal. A response timing mode is selected from a number of predefined response timing modes. The terminal is informed about the selected response timing mode. An initiation is received from the terminal and it is responded to the initiation by changing certain diversity weights so that the exact moment of time for effecting the change is determined by the selected response timing mode.

  • Patent number: 6735180
Abstract: A method of sending feedback information in a fast physical layer hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) for frequency division duplex communications that form an overall wireless communication system is described in which the received packets are acknowledged by transmitting feedback data to the sender, wherein the acknowledgement comprises the reservation of obtaining a plurality of slots in the uplink/downlink dedicated channel radio frame for the feedback data alone. It is also directed to the transmission of feedback data used in specified slots within each radio frame, wherein the first slot used is based upon the time offset between uplink and downlink channels, as well as based upon the time required for de-interleaving, de-ratematching, decoding and error checking. In an alternative embodiment, the method uses dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH) bits in at least some of the slots for transmitting such feedback data to the sender.

  • Patent number: 6456847
Abstract: The invention relates to a radio system and a method of timing an interfrequency handover in a WCDMA cellular radio system where data transmission between a terminal equipment and a base station employs several adjacent alternative frequency bands, and which comprises several different base stations the coverage areas of which overlap at least partly, the base stations utilizing frequency band groups that differ from one another and that are situated next to one another in the frequency range, in which system a terminal equipment communicates with a first base station on a first frequency band and measures the strength of a first signal it has received from the base station, and wherein the terminal equipment measures the strength of a second signal transmitted by a second base station on a second, adjacent frequency band.

  • Patent number: 6332005
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for converting a signal data rate and to a transmitter in a digital data transmission system, the transmitter comprising a number of data sources that generate a signal having a first data rate, and a coder for forming the signal into frames of a given length, which length corresponds to a second data rate, and a coder for grouping the signal into a first block the length of which corresponds to the first data rate.

  • Patent number: 6269126
Abstract: Provided is a method and system for a radio system including at least one base station and terminal equipment including a receiver and a transmitter. The transmitter is structured and arranged to independently adjust a symbol rate of at least two signals and combine the two signals after adjusting the symbol rate. The transmitter then transmits the combined signal along one physical path. By adjusting the signal rate before combining the two signals, the transmitter optimizes the signal qualities of each of the signals.

  • Patent number: 6266321
Abstract: To simultaneously transmit data related to two channels using code division data related to a first channel (DTCH) are spread parallely using a first spreading code (CI) and a second spreading code (CQ), data related to a second channel (PCCH) are spread parallely using a first spreading code (CI) and a second spreading code (CQ), the power level of a signal representing said data related to the second channel (PCCH) after the spreading is changed (G) with respect to the power level of a signal representing the data related to the first channel (DTCH) after the spreading, and a transmission is compiled from spread data related to the first channel and spread data related to the second channel the power level of which has been changed.

  • Patent number: 6226320
Abstract: In a communication system in which data and user information are transmitted on a radio path between a transmitting end and a receiving end, multirate coding and detection are carried out by: allocating different signal waveforms to different transfer rates, selecting, at the transmitting end, the data transfer rate to be used on the radio path for transferring user information, selecting, at the transmitting end, the signal waveform to be used on the radio path according to the selected transfer rate, transmitting the user information with the selected transfer rate and the selected signal waveform to the receiving end, the signal waveform indicating the selected data transfer rate, detecting, at the receiving end, the signal waveform used on the radio path, selecting, at the receiving end, a transfer rate corresponding with the detected signal waveform, and adapting reception to the selected transfer rate.

  • Patent number: 6038695
Abstract: The invention relates to a data transmission method and equipment for encoding and decoding a signal, comprising on the encoding side at least two parallel encoders (600, 602) and on the decoding side at least two parallel decoders (700, 702). In order to provide efficient coding, on the encoding side of the equipment each parallel encoder (600, 602) comprises a number of registers (612a-618a) connected in tandem, and a number or adding means (622a-626a) that add the outputs of the registers (612a-618a) to the data, and a mapping means (628a) the input of which consists of the outputs of the registers (612a-618a) and the output (608) of which comprises a Walsh symbol selected on the basis of inputs of a converter means (628a), and on the decoding side of the equipment the input (704, 706) of each parallel decoder (700, 702) is the received Walsh symbol and the reliability information (718, 720) about the symbol decision, received from the other parallel decoders.

  • Patent number: 5949790
Abstract: The invention relates to a data transmission method in a wireless data transmission system where signals with one or more data rates and quality levels are transmitted simultaneously. In order for it to be possible to transmit information on the radio path at different rates and quality requirements, the transmitter according to the invention comprises forward error correction coders (206, 208) for carrying out outer coding for at least some of the signals to be transmitted so that all the signals to be transmitted have a common quality level, a multiplexer (214) for combining the signals to be transmitted into frames having a given length, a forward error correction coder (220) for carrying out inner coding for the frames to be transmitted, and a mechanism (222) for repeating or deleting symbols in each frame, if necessary, so that the length of the symbols or each frame equals that of a multifold of a time interval that is known and essentially shorter than the symbol length.
