Abstract: Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is chlorine, bromine or iodine,R.sub.2 is hydrogen or halogen, andR.sub.3 is hydrogen, lower alkyl or hydroxy-lower alkyl, or when R.sub.3 is hydrogen, an alkali metal salt thereof; the compounds and their salts are useful as anxiolytics, anticonvulsives and sedatives.

Abstract: Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.2 is hydrogen, chlorine, bromine, formyl, acetyl, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, nitro, cyano or --CH.sub.2 --A;whereA is (alkyl of 1 to 2 carbon atoms)-amino; di(alkyl of 1 to 2 carbon atoms)-amino, where one of the alkyl moieties may have a terminal hydroxyl substituent attached thereto; or a 5-, 6- or 7-membered saturated, nitrogen-containing heterocycle which is attached to the methylene group through the nitrogen atom and may have a hydroxyl or hydroxymethyl substituent attached to a ring carbon atom, and the 6-membered heterocycle may contain oxygen as an additional ring heteroatom in the p-position;R.sub.3 is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, methyl or methoxy; andR.sub.4 is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms;and non-toxic, pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salts thereof. The compounds as well as their salts are useful as antidepressants.

Abstract: Compounds of the steroisomeric formulas ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which may be identical to or different from each other, are each phenyl, substituted phenyl, thienyl or furyl;R.sub.3 is hydrogen or straight or branched alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms; andR.sub.4 is straight or branched alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms; orR.sub.3 and R.sub.4, together with each other and the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a piperidino, 4-amino-piperidino, 4-(lower alkylamino)-piperidino, piperazino, 4-(alkyl of 1 to 2 carbon atoms)-piperazino or morpholino radical; and non-toxic, pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salts thereof. The compounds as well as their salts are useful as antidepressants.

Abstract: Compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, halo-lower alkyl, hydroxy-lower alkyl, di(lower alkyl)amino-lower alkyl, phenyl, tolyl, methoxy-phenyl, nitro-phenyl, halo-phenyl, pyridyl, pyrimidinyl or --CO--R.sub.4, where R.sub.4 is hydrogen, alkyl or 1 to 17 carbon atoms, alkoxy of 1 to 2 carbon atoms, phenyl, tolyl, methoxy-phenyl, halo-phenyl, nitro-phenyl or pyridyl;R.sub.2 is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, or bromine; andR.sub.3 is chlorine, bromine or lower alkyl,and non-toxic, pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salts of certain of these compounds. The compounds as well as the salts are useful as anxiolytics, tranquilizers, sedatives or neuroleptics.

The compounds are useful as neuroleptics.
