Patent number: 10831837Abstract: A method and a system are described for generation of sets of alternative terms based on queries received from users. For example, a query module may receive a query comprising syntax indicating alternative terms and may parse the alternative terms from the query. A frequency module forms groups of alternative terms from the parsed alternative terms and determines a first number of occurrences corresponding to each of the groups based on the received query and previous queries. For a first pair of the groups comprising a first alternative term and a second alternative term, a threshold module adds the first alternative term to an existing set of terms that already includes the second alternative term. The addition is based on a second number of occurrences of the first alternative and at least one other member of the existing set of terms.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2009Date of Patent: November 10, 2020Assignee: eBay Inc.Inventor: Karin Mauge

Patent number: 9727638Abstract: In various example embodiments, a system and method to provide query linguistic service is provided. An initial query term set is received. Phrase recognition is performed on the initial query term set to determine recognized phrases. Using the determined recognized phrases, one or more synonyms for each of the recognized phrases are determined. Results matching the initial query term set and any selected synonyms from the determined one or more synonyms are determined.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2015Date of Patent: August 8, 2017Assignee: PAYPAL, INC.Inventors: Karin Mauge′, Radoslav Valentinov Petranov, Jean-David Ruvini, Antoniya T. Publication number: 20150058334Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for generating a query are described. A query submitted by a user is accessed and the submitted query is identified as corresponding to a theme by determining a strength score of the submitted query. In one example embodiment, the strength score indicates a pertinence of the submitted query to the theme, the theme being a descriptor of a concept that is applicable to the submitted query. A thematic query is generated based on the submitted query and the determined strength score.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2014Publication date: February 26, 2015Inventors: Neelakantan Sundaresan, Karin Mauge'

Patent number: 8880513Abstract: Queries submitted by users when interacting with a network-based system may be analyzed by a query mining machine that determines a theme common to the submitted queries. The machine accesses the submitted queries and identifies a portion of the submitted queries as corresponding to the theme. Identification of the portion may include determining a strength score of a submitted query, where the strength score indicates a degree of influence that the submitted query is to have on the identifying of the portion. The machine generates a thematic query based on the identified portion and obtains search results by executing the thematic query. The search results correspond to a group of items. The machine presents at least some of the group of items as a collection that corresponds to the theme (e.g., within a temporary electronic storefront).Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2011Date of Patent: November 4, 2014Assignee: eBay Inc.Inventors: Neelakantan Sundaresan, Karin Mauge′

Publication number: 20140164387Abstract: Systems and methods for generating data dictionaries are disclosed. In one example, a system comprises a candidate list generator module to generate a list of keywords from search query information, a validation module to validate candidate token pairs based on a divergence value wherein candidate token pairs having divergence values exceeding a divergence threshold are valid token pairs, and a data dictionary module to receive the validated token pairs as entries in a vocabulary, and provide the validated token pairs in response to a search query containing a keyword corresponding to at least one entry in the vocabulary.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 14, 2014Publication date: June 12, 2014Applicant: eBay Inc.Inventors: Yan Chen, Joseph Anthony Beynon, Baruch Perlov, Sanjay Pundlkrao Ghatare, Alvaro Bolivar, Nishith Parikh, Karin Mauge', Guanglei Song

Publication number: 20140129390Abstract: Consumers face a problem matching brand and size of one product to a different brand and size of a related product because not all brands measure sizes in the same way. As such, internet commerce companies recommend shoe sizes to users based upon a user-specified size or a user-specified pair of the shoes and size in a brand that the user suggests. Data in a peer-to-peer marketplace is mined to determine corresponding shoe sizes across various brands.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2013Publication date: May 8, 2014Inventors: Karin Mauge, Neelakantan Sundaresan, Amit Reuven Menipaz

Patent number: 8676829Abstract: There is provided an ecommerce method and system to generate a data dictionary for searching data items stored in a database. In one embodiment, the system comprises a candidate list generator module to generate a list of keywords from search query information and generate a set of token pairs including a keyword from the list of keywords and a token, the token being a synonym of the keyword. Demand information retrieved from query logs maintained for user-provided query entries is used to apply candidate selection rules to token pairs. The system also comprises a validation module and a data dictionary module to receive validated token pairs as entries in a vocabulary.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2012Date of Patent: March 18, 2014Assignee: eBay, Inc.Inventors: Yan Chen, Joseph Anthony Beynon, Baruch Perlov, Sanjay Pundlkrao Ghatare, Alvaro Bolivar, Nishith Parikh, Karin Mauge′, Guanglei Song

Patent number: 8145662Abstract: There is provided a method and system generate a data dictionary for searching data items stored in an information resource. In one embodiment, the system generates a list of synonyms for keywords entered in search queries to the system. A keyword and synonym form a token pair. Token pairs are evaluated according to a bidirectional divergence value calculated for distributions of search results, wherein the searches are based on the token pairs. Token pairs are then selected based on the divergence value. The selected token pairs are compiled into a data dictionary. In one embodiment, the data dictionary is a synonym dictionary used for user search query expansion to find matching items.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2008Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Assignee: eBay Inc.Inventors: Yan Chen, Joe Anthony Beynon, Baruch Perlov, Sanjay Pundlkrao Ghatare, Alvaro Bolivar, Nishith Parikh, Karin Mauge, Guanglei Song
