  • Patent number: 5219483
Abstract: Improved deicing compositions are provided which comprise calcium magnesium and potassium acetate containing up to about 50% potassium acetate which have improved melting properties as compared to calcium magnesium acetate deicing compositions.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 2, 1991
Date of Patent: June 15, 1993
Assignee: General Atomics International Services Corporation
Inventors: Jay D. Rynbrandt, Karl A. Hoenke
  • Patent number: 5132035
Abstract: Compositions which comprises a major amount of an alkaline earth or alkali metal carboxylate, a minor amount of unreacted base and impurities, and an effective anti-staining amount of an organic chelating agent are useful as non-staining deicing compositions for use on airport runways and taxiways. The preferred alkaline earth carboxylate is calcium magnesium acetate and the preferred chelating agent is EDTA. Processes for preparation of such compositions are described.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 8, 1991
Date of Patent: July 21, 1992
Assignee: General Atomics International Services Corporation
Inventors: Karl A. Hoenke, Jay D. Rynbrandt
  • Patent number: 4219536
Abstract: An improved process for preparing nitric acid. The process is characterized by the steps of (1) contacting gaseous nitrogen dioxide with feed water to yield aqueous liquid nitric acid and a gaseous by-product; (2) contacting the gaseous by-product with ammonia and water to yield a decontaminated gaseous effluent and an aqueous liquid by-product comprising aqueous ammonium nitrate, ammonium nitrite and nitric acid, and (3) feeding the liquid product to the first step above and reducing the amount of said feed water up to an amount equivalent to the water fed in the liquid product. The process is characterized by substantially reduced water consumption and improved pollution control economics and by the innocuous disposal of the hazardous ammonium nitrite.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 26, 1978
Date of Patent: August 26, 1980
    Assignee: Chevron Research Company
    Inventor: Karl A. Hoenke
  • Patent number: 3964893
Abstract: Lawn moss is controlled with an herbicidally effective amount of granular ferric ammonium sulfate-ammonium sulfate double salts of the empirical formula (NH.sub.4).sub.3 Fe(SO.sub.4).sub.3.xH.sub.2 O wherein x is 0 to 12. The double salts also provide excellent greening of the treated lawn.
