  • Patent number: 4160709
Abstract: A method for galvanic deposition of nickel from an electrolyte containing nickel sulfamate and nickel chloride is disclosed wherein the formation of intermediate products resulting from the oxidation of nickel sulfamate and the escape of anode sludge into the electrolyte are controlled to such an extent so as to reduce the amount of sulfur incorporated in the deposition to less than about 15 ppm. This results in avoidance of brittleness in the nickel deposition at high temperatures and allows the coated article to be welded. These properties were difficult or impossible to obtain in the prior art processes.

  • Patent number: 4156306
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a regeneratively cooled rocket combustion chamber which includes a thrust nozzle portion connected to a combustion chamber portion and which is constructed with cooling channels which extend in the longitudinal direction between an inner shell or wall having a smooth interior surface and an outer shell or wall and which are laterally bounded by radially extending webs, comprises forming the inner shell along with the cooling channel webs by electrodepositing metal on an electroplating core which is made up of chemically dissolvable material and has its outside contour conformable to the inside contour of the inner wall of the combustion chamber which is provided with radially extending projections forming mold blades for the webs defining the lateral boundaries of the cooling channels. Thereafter, the cooling channels are filled with a multiple electrically well-conducting filling material up to the level of the outer ends of the webs after these outer ends have been finish turned.

  • Patent number: 4148121
Abstract: The constructional parts have walls formed of elongated elements, such as res or tubes, wound spirally in juxtaposition about the axis of symmetry of the part and connected to each other. The elongated elements are bent to shape utilizing a bending device having at least one bending groove conformable to the predetermined three-dimensional geometry of the part to be manufactured. One end of each wire or tube is fixed to the bending device and the other end is engaged in a clamping and adjusting device designed as a combined Cardan swivel joint which, during the bending, it utilized to continuously control the adjustment parameters of the wire or tube, about three mutually intersecting axes, in conformity with such predetermined three-dimensional geometry of the part.

  • Patent number: 4078604
Abstract: In a heat exchanger wall construction, such as used in regeneratively cooled combustion chambers for liquid fueled rocket engines, the wall construction consists of an inner wall with cooling channels spaced apart by webs. The cooling channels are open on one surface of the inner wall. An outer wall contacts the webs of the inner wall and forms a closure over the openings from the cooling channels. The outer wall consists of an intermediate layer electro-deposited on the surface of the inner wall in which the cooling channels are formed so that it provides a closure surface for the channels. The surfaces of the channels within the inner wall are coated by electro-depositing a layer of gold on them. After forming the gold layer on the surfaces of the cooling channels, the outer surfaces of the webs are etched so that the gold layer extends outwardly from the outer surface of the webs. Next the intermediate layer is deposited and it can be either a single layer or multi-layered.
