Abstract: A process is disclosed that comprises solution grafting a hydrocarbon polymer prepared from at least C2 to C28 polymerizable hydrocarbon, said polymer having a number average molecular weight in the range of from about 5,000 to about 500,000, with an ethylenically unsaturated C3 to C10 carboxylic acid material, using a free radical initiator, in the presence of an aromatic ester oil of the formula (I) wherein R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, and R6 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, —COOR7, —COOR8, —COOR9, —COOR10, —COOR11, and —COOR12, provided that no more than 5 of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are hydrogen, and R7, R8, R9, R10, R11, and R12 are independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl and alkylesters

Abstract: A composition of matter is disclosed wherein the composition comprises a hydrazide compound of the formula: wherein: R1 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkyl ether, and phenyl; R2, R3, R4, R5, and R6 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, alkyl ether, and aryl; and n is an integer of from 0 to 10; and wherein: when R1 is phenyl, it is of the structure: wherein R7, R8, and R9 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, alkyl ether, and aryl, or R7 can be combined with R8 to form a ring of 5 or 6 carbon atoms. The hydrazides are useful as stabilizers for lubricants, greases, and polymeric systems, particularly lubricating oils, as are maleated polymers that have been functionalized with them.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a composition comprising: A) a lubricant; and B) a mixture of antioxidants, wherein said mixture is prepared by the partial condensation of an alkylated diphenylamine with an aldehyde or ketone in the presence of an acidic catalyst to yield at least one acridan of the general formula: wherein: R1, R2, R3, and R4 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C3 to C32 alkyl, and C3 to C32 alkenyl, provided that at least one of R1, R2, R3, and R4 is not hydrogen, and R5 and R6 are independently selected from the group consisting of C1 to C20 hydrocarbyl and hydrogen; wherein, at the termination of said condensation, residual alkylated diphenylamine is not separated from the acridan product.
