  • Patent number: 6612037
Abstract: A chainsaw guide bar includes a bar body and a nose member removably attached to the bar body by an elastic snap-in coupling, eliminating the need for separate fastening elements. The snap-in coupling includes dimples formed in tongues of the nose member, the dimples being received in holes formed in a web of the bar body. The dimpled portions of the tongues are elastically flexible in a thickness direction of the guide bar to enable the nose member to be inserted or removed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 30, 2002
Date of Patent: September 2, 2003
    Assignee: Blount, Inc.
Inventors: Gabriel Carro, Karl Erik Forsberg, Karl Olov Pettersson, Larry Flowers, Paul E. Wade

  • Patent number: 6397475
Abstract: A chainsaw guide bar has tubes to convey liquid such as lubricants, fungicides, paints, etc. The tubes, made of soft deformable metal, are placed in respective grooves formed in the guide bar and are then deformed. The grooves include an undercut side, whereby a portion of the deformed tube is held in its groove by an interference bit defined by the undercut side and a portion of the deformed tube situated behind the undercut side.

  • Patent number: 6317989
Abstract: A nose sprocket for the saw chain of a chain saw includes radially projecting teeth, each tooth having leading and trailing edges. Each of those edges includes a straight inner portion and an outer portion that deviates from a radius of the sprocket by a greater amount than the inner portion. The teeth are long enough to enter a space formed between side links of the saw chain.

  • Patent number: 5199828
Abstract: A cutting insert is mounted on a holder by means of a locking screw which enables inserts to be exchanged without completely removing the screw from the holder. The insert has a through-hole configured such that a lower end thereof is of cylindrical configuration and includes a tapered section located thereabove. The tapered section expands in cross-section in an upward direction. The locking screw includes a head, the outer surface of which engages the through-hole at diametrically opposite contact locations and imposes a downward force on the insert at each contact location. In one embodiment, the head includes cylindrical surface portions which engage the through-hole at both contact locations. In another embodiment, the head includes a surface expanding in cross-section in an upward direction which engages the through-hole at both contact locations.

  • Patent number: 4990036
Abstract: A cutting insert simultaneously performs a plurality of operations such as roughing and finishing, or roughing and polishing. A roughing/finishing insert has a main cutting edge and a secondary cutting edge, both edges extending laterally relative to a direction of feed of the insert. The secondary cutting edge is disposed rearwardly of the main cutting edge and extends farther laterally outwardly than the main cutting edge by a distance which is substantially less than the lateral extent of the main cutting edge.
