  • Patent number: 7403475
Abstract: An apparatus and method for routing data packet connection pathways. A pathway controller monitors all of the packet data service nodes available for the transmission of data packets to mobile nodes in order to allocate the service nodes appropriately. A main call processing node selects an available packet data service node for use for a mobile node based upon the availability of the service nodes. A mobile node may have its data packet pathway deactivated if the network infrastructure determines the need to free-up resources for other mobile nodes. The data packet pathway may be reactivated upon the event of a new data packet arriving for the mobile node. The methods of deactivation and reactivation may be used to solve data packet pathway serving faults. The data packet connection pathways that may be reactivated may be done in a load balanced fashion.

  • Publication number: 20060121916
Abstract: A telephone system supports communication with user devices over both a cellular radio network as well as over an Internet Protocol (IP) network, and enables roaming and active call handoff between cellular and IP domains. Approaches to detecting presence of a user near a suitable IP network are used in controlling transitions between the domains, for example, enabling automatic transitions between domains, and delivery of calls to a mobile user to data network devices in the vicinity of the user.

  • Publication number: 20030045308
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for providing data services to a mobile data device through a packet data service node system and a wireless data network. The method includes the steps of exchanging data between the mobile data device and packet data service node system at least partially through the wireless data network using a tunneling protocol, decoding the tunneling protocol within a programmers space of a general purpose computing platform of the packet data service node system, determining an identity of the user from the decoded tunneling protocol and providing at least some data services to the identified user based upon a predetermined services list associated with the identified user.

  • Patent number: 6501732
Abstract: A system and method for controlling the flow of data from a data network to a mobile user over a wireless link. A data flow controller is provided in an inter-working gateway between the mobile switch center of the wireless network and the data network. The data flow controller determines the amount of available space in the mobile switch center buffer and ensures that the amount of data sent to the mobile switch center is no greater than the available buffer space. The data flow controller continually updates the available buffer space by determining the amount of data sent periodically to the mobile user according to a given airlink data rate. The data flow controller includes a buffer to store any remaining data that could not be sent to avoid overflowing the mobile switch center buffer.
