  • Patent number: 6249950
Abstract: A metal-cutting tool comprises a holder, a clamp, and a metal-cutting insert. The holder includes a blade part which forms an upwardly facing seating surface extending in a front-to-rear direction. The holder includes a recess including a longitudinal axis extending in the front-to-rear direction at an angle relative to the seating surface, whereby an imaginary rearward extension of the seating surface converges toward the axis. The insert is mounted on the seating surface and the clamp has a rear portion which is slidable within the recess, whereby a front portion of the clamp pushes downwardly and rearwardly against a top surface of the insert. That top surface is shaped so that the front portion of the clamp is flexed upwardly relative to the rear portion when the rear portion is pushed rearwardly to the clamping position.

  • Patent number: 6113319
Abstract: A blade-shaped tool holder for metal cutting machining comprises a blade part formed of a first metallic material, and a core of a sub micron hard material disposed in the blade part for stiffening the blade part.

  • Patent number: 6086291
Abstract: A tool for chip-removing machining includes an insert holder and an insert that is mechanically connected with the holder via upper and lower interfaces. Each interface includes a pair of contact surfaces that extend at an obtuse angle relative to each other. Disposed centrally between one of those pairs of contact surfaces is a ridge, and disposed centrally between the other pair of contact surfaces there is a flute. Each of the recess and flute is defined by side surfaces that extend at an acute angle relative to each other. When the ridge engages the flute, a proper absorption of transverse forces acting upon the insert is guaranteed, whereby the insert is maintained essentially immovable in its position in order to guarantee a proper machining accuracy.

  • Patent number: 5980165
Abstract: An insert holder having a slot adapted to receive a cutting insert, a part of the slot being formed by a clamping arm. Two laterally opening seats are provided in the holder for receiving two spaced-apart projections of a key that is intended to bend the clamping arm outwards for widening the slot during the mounting and/or dismounting of a cutting insert. One of the seats has a cylindrical shape and defines a fulcrum for receiving the first projection, while the other seat has an oblong shape in order to effect outward bending of the clamping arm in response to displacement of the second projection along the oblong seat from a first point thereon located at a certain distance from the first fulcrum to a second point thereon located at a shorter distance from the fulcrum.

  • Patent number: 5934843
Abstract: A holder for clamping an insert, such as an insert for the turning of grooves and for parting. The holder includes a slot for receiving the insert. A recess is formed in an upper surface of the slot, and a tensioning roller is rotatably mounted in the recess. The roller is rotatable between a position permitting insertion or removal of the insert, and a position clamping the insert in place.
