Patent number: 5034104Abstract: A coking installation has a longitudinal succession of coking chambers having respective coke sides opening transversely above a bench level above ground level and an outer rail extending longitudinally along and adjacent the coke sides of the chambers. A quenching-car track extends longitudinally adjacent the coke sides between the outer rail and the chambers and a main gangway runs longitudinally at the bench level along the coke sides of the chambers between same and the quenching-car track. An inner rail extends longitudinally between the car track and the gangway and a portal support rides on and moves along the inner and outer tracks. This support carries door-removing equipment, door-cleaning equipement, doorframe-cleaning equipment, and a coke guide. A drive on the portal support displaces the equipement and guide transversely thereon between an extended position extending across the main gangway and engaging one of the coking chambers and a retracted position substantially clear of the main gangway.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1988Date of Patent: July 23, 1991Assignee: Gewerkschaft Schalker EisenhutteInventors: Karl Gregor, Kurt Asmus

Patent number: 4394217Abstract: Apparatus for servicing coke ovens has a framework movable along the coke oven battery. A horizontally rotatable and vertically pivotable boom has one end mounted on the gantry and a coke oven work tool on the other. The framework includes a coke quenching apparatus and conveying equipment.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1981Date of Patent: July 19, 1983Assignees: Ruhrkohle Aktiengesellschaft, Gewerkschaft Schalker EisenhutteInventors: Wilhelm Holz, Helmut Lukaszewicz, Karl Gregor

Patent number: 4384652Abstract: A coke-oven door, fitting within its frame with a predetermined vertical play, is extractable therefrom by an apparatus comprising vertically movable lifting elements on a horizontally displaceable support, the lifting elements being operable by a hydraulic cylinder with the aid of a controller responsive to the output of a pulse generator coupled with these elements. The controller includes a pulse counter which is stepped forward by the pulse generator after an initial upward motion (a) of the lifting elements from a lower limiting position, designed to fully engage these elements with coacting projections on the door, the lift being halted when a predetermined count has been reached to indicate a break-free level at which the door is substantially centered in its frame. The door is then horizontally withdrawn on the support and, when clear of the frame, is further elevated to a cleaning level at which the lifting elements have reached an upper limiting position.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1978Date of Patent: May 24, 1983Assignee: Gewerkschaft Schalker EisenhutteInventor: Karl Gregor

Patent number: 4366004Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for cleaning the interiors of risers of coking chambers of a coke oven wherein a head provided with scrapers, hydraulic cleaning means or oxygen supply for burning off deposits, is introduced laterally into the coking furnace below the riser and caused to elevate through the riser. Thereafter the head is lowered and the apparatus withdrawn laterally through the coking chamber.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1980Date of Patent: December 28, 1982Assignee: Gewerkschaft Schalker EisenhutteInventors: Karl Gregor, Kurt Asmus

Patent number: 4359364Abstract: A coking installation has a coking chamber whose coke side opens above a bench level that is above ground level. A coke-guide track at this bench level supports a coke guide which is displaceable along the track and alignable with the coke side of the chamber. A ground-level quenching-car track supports a quenching car which can be displaced along the car track to receive coke pushed from the chamber through the guide. A gas-collecting apparatus has an outer track supported on the ground outside the coke-guide quenching-car tracks. A portal support is displaceable along this outer track and has outrigger arms carrying a gas-collecting hood above the quenching car. The gas-treatment plant has a stationary conduit provided on the ground underneath the portal support and is connected via a movable conduit to the hood on the support.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1981Date of Patent: November 16, 1982Assignee: Gewerkschaft Schalker EisenhutteInventors: Karl Gregor, Karl Feldhaus

Patent number: 4340987Abstract: An apparatus having an element for cleaning deposits from the edge of a doorjamb or door of a coking oven is provided with a heater for maintaining this element at a temperature above the softening point of the deposits, normally around 150.degree. C. The element may be a scraper or brush and the heater may be an electrical resistance-type heater, a device for directing a heated gas stream at the element, or a system wherein a heated fluid is passed through the element.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1980Date of Patent: July 27, 1982Assignee: Gewerkschaft Schalker EisenhutteInventors: Karl Gregor, Karl Feldhaus

Patent number: 4225393Abstract: A device for the removal of a coke-oven door, engaging the door frame of a coking chamber by one or more swingable latch arms that are axially loaded by Belleville springs, comprises a support carrying one or more unlatching heads alignable with the swing axes of respective latch arms along which that body can be moved toward and away from the door by a hydraulic jack linked with a fixed or separately movable base. Each unlatching head comprises a gripper rod axially movable inside a pressure sleeve by means of a hydraulic actuator. The gripper rod has a pair of claws which, when that rod is brought into contact with a knob on a pivot stud of the associated latch arm, are cammable into engagement with this knob by a forward thrusting of the pressure sleeve through the hydraulic actuator. The sleeve then comes to bear upon a collar surrounding the pivot stud whereby an extension of this collar compresses the Belleville springs behind the latch to relieve their pressure upon that arm.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1978Date of Patent: September 30, 1980Assignee: Gewerkschaft Schalker EisenhutteInventors: Karl Gregor, Karl Feldhaus

Patent number: 4189272Abstract: Coke is charged into a coke oven chamber by positioning a filling hopper over an opening in the roof of the chamber and evacuating the chamber. A filling tube is lowered from the hopper to the bottom of the chamber and coal is fed from the hopper through the filling tube into the chamber while gas is evacuated from the latter during the filling. The filling tube is raised as the chamber is filled with coal through the tube and the velocity with which the tube is raised is controlled as a function of the subatmospheric pressure generated in the chamber by the evacuation of gas therefrom. Alternatively, the subatmospheric pressure generated in the chamber is controlled as a function of the velocity with which the tube is raised.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1978Date of Patent: February 19, 1980Assignee: Gewerkschaft Schalker EisenhutteInventors: Karl Gregor, Kurt Asmus

Patent number: 4153515Abstract: A main carriage is displaceable in a transport direction along rails next to the unloading side of a battery of coking chambers. A substantially smaller auxiliary frame is displaceable on the main frame in the same transport direction as the main frame and carries several operating units including a door-removing device, a doorframe cleaner and a guide for conducting coke pushed from the opposite side out of the chamber into a quenching wagon next to the battery. In addition a door cleaner may be provided on the main frame together with a chain conveyor or the like having one flight extending on the main frame in its transport direction next to the battery and another flight extending across the main frame perpendicular to the transport direction so as to empty into the quenching car.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1976Date of Patent: May 8, 1979Assignee: Gewerkschaft Schalker EisenhutteInventors: Karl Gregor, Kurt Asmus
