  • Patent number: 11938045
Abstract: Breathable residual-limb system that admits air and allows sweat to evaporate from the surface of the residual limb. In an embodiment, the system comprises a liner sock to be worn on the residual limb, and comprising air-permeable textile forming a substantially cylindrical portion that is closed on a distal end and open on a proximal end and comprising an internal surface and an external surface. The liner sock further comprises a friction-interface material that covers only a portion of the internal surface of the air-permeable textile, such that, when worn on the residual limb, the friction-interface material contacts a surface of the residual limb, and an uncovered portion of the air-permeable textile which the friction-interface material does not cover allows air to pass between an external environment of the liner sock and the surface of the residual limb.

  • Patent number: 8126877
Abstract: Search engine results arranged according to one or more first criteria (e.g., relevancy) are obtained. The results are assigned groups within chosen or calculated relevancy ranges. The results are then resorted within each group according to one or more second criteria (e.g., payment). The groups maintain original placement relative to each other during resorting. A list of at least some of the resorted results is then created for various uses, including search or further manipulation.

  • Patent number: 8065283
Abstract: Synonyms for a term to be indexed are dynamically generated by applying one or more rules (e.g., splitting, deletion or addition of characters, and concatenation of portions) to the term, each synonym generated either including only a portion and not all of the term or differing from the term by at least one additional character in a position between a first character and a last character (i.e., not at either end of the term). The term and some or all of the synonyms are then indexed for subsequent searching.

  • Publication number: 20060230556
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved mechanical coupling for rapidly adjusting the elevation of a working edge portion of a tool which working edge portion is subject to wear that decreases the effective length of the working edge portion. In one embodiment, the bristles of a drum-type brush comprise the working edge portion. Once the working edge is properly adjusted with respect to a work surface, the amount of downforce imparted by the working edge and the pattern of the working edge on a work surface are maximized. In use an operator compares the length of the working edge to a first indicia set displayed adjacent the working edge and adjusts the elevation of the working edge with reference to a second indicia set which corresponds to the first indicia set. Surface maintenance vehicles which support an adjustable height tool with a working edge that wears down may utilize the present invention.

  • Patent number: 6531617
Abstract: Enantiomerically enriched hydroxychromanones are obtained by the AlCl3-catalyzed intramolecular Friedel-Crafts acylation of the corresponding 3-phenoxy-2-alkylcarbonyloxy-propionic acid followed by cleavage of the carboxylate in the presence of an alkali metal peroxide or hydroperoxide. Enantiomerically enriched cis-aminochromanols can then be prepared by treating the hydroxychromanones with a hydroxylamine and hydrogenating the resulting oxime. The cis-aminochromanols can be employed as intermediates in the production of HIV protease inhibitors which are useful for treating HIV infection and AIDS.

  • Patent number: 6507968
Abstract: An air barrier or skirt apparatus for a surface treating machine having a brush chamber and a rotatable brush substantially disposed within the brush chamber. The air barrier or skirt apparatus is disposed adjacent either end of the rotatable brush and extend from the brush chamber to a surface to be cleaned. The air barrier or skirt apparatus comprises an inner flexible member and an outer flexible member. The inner flexible member and the outer flexible member are coupled to each other at predetermined attachment regions, with the predetermined attachment regions defining first and second dimensions on the inner and outer flexible members, respectively. The first dimension of the inner flexible member is less than the second dimension of the outer flexible member, so that when the inner and outer flexible members are coupled to each other at the predetermined attachment regions the inner flexible member is formed into a non-planar configuration.
