  • Patent number: 6428250
Abstract: A drill bit for drilling a hole of a selected diameter in a wood workpiece includes a conically shaped tip having a main cutting portion and a thread series operable to threadingly draw the drill bit into the wood workpiece. The thread series has a diameter which progressively increases in a direction opposite to the drilling penetration direction of movement of the drill bit to a maximum diameter which is the same as the selected diameter of the hole to be drilled. The drill bit also includes a cylindrical portion extending from the conically shaped tip, a spiral screw shaped splinter groove for conducting splinters in the drilled hole away from the drill bit penetration area and a centering drill portion with a self cutting thread series.

  • Patent number: 5980365
Abstract: A tool grinding machine has a moveable tool receiving member and a support rotatable about a vertical axis. The support includes a solid disk having a great mass allowing a vibration-free grinding at great output. Grinding spindles are arranged vertically on the disk for grinding a tool received in the tool receiving member. The grinding spindles have a vertical extension above the disk. The disk has a vertical thickness matching at least the vertical length of the grinding spindles.

  • Patent number: 5738572
Abstract: A grinding machine has a machine frame and a grinding spindle support positioned on the machine frame. At least one grinding spindle is arranged with upwardly slanted axis at the grinding spindle support. A grinding wheel is connected to the grinding spindle. A workpiece holder is connected to the machine frame so as to extend parallel to the axis of the grinding spindle. The workpiece holder is displaceable in the axial direction of the grinding spindle and perpendicular to the axial direction of the grinding spindle. A housing is positioned at a slant parallel to the axis of the grinding spindle and encloses the workpiece holder and the grinding wheel. The housing has an outlet opening for a cooling liquid at the lowermost point of the housing. Drive devices for effecting a linear movement of the workpiece holder and a rotational movement of the grinding wheel and the workpiece are positioned exterior to the housing.

  • Patent number: 4686796
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for polishing turbine blades is disclosed wherein the path of a sanding shoe with respect to the turbine blade is controlled as the turbine blade is rotated on a spindle. The method involves plotting the profiles of the turbine blade in a number of planes, defining the profiles as a series of circle segments each having a center and an angular length, choosing an arbitrary center of rotation of the turbine blade, measuring the distances from the center of rotation to each of the circle segment centers, plotting the hypothetical path of the center of rotation about each circle segment center by each corresponding angular length, and using the derived path of the center of rotation to control the movement of the shoe in a vertical direction and the turbine blade in a horizontal direction as the turbine blade rotates.

  • Patent number: 4524545
Abstract: An improved grinding wheel support arrangement in a grinding machine. The support arrangement includes a support table on which a first post is threadably mounted in a direction normal to the support table. A pair of second posts is fixedly mounted on the support table at a predetermined distance from the first post. A first support shaft is rotatably mounted in the pair of second post by means of a pair of tapered roller bearings. A second support shaft is rotatably mounted in the housing also by means of a pair of tapered roller bearings. An intermediate member is respectively fixedly connected at its opposite ends to said first and second support shafts. A grinding wheel shaft is rotatably mounted in the housing and a grinding wheel is coaxially mounted on the grinding wheel shaft. The first post is connected to the grinding wheel shaft so as to permit its free rotation but also so as to determine its position relative to the support table.

  • Patent number: 4454689
Abstract: In a grinding or milling machine an improved clamping arrangement for holding one end of a tool blank having a portion with at least four sides in cross-section. The other end of the tool blank is held against a stationary holding member. The clamping arrangement includes a housing which is coaxially mounted on a drive shaft. A pair of clamping members are reciprocally mounted in the housing and are biased outwardly by means of a pair of coil springs. Each clamping member has a skewed planar surface at its free end. The skewed planar surfaces biasingly engage opposite edges of the tool blank so as to compensate for any misalignment of the tool blank with respect to the holding member and clamping arrangement.
