  • Patent number: 6250259
Abstract: The invention is directed to a protective device for a heating unit, in particular for a flow-through heater (22), which is equipped with a current-carrying conductor (1) having a first end thereof mechanically biased into contact with a first fixed point of connection (40) and a second end (23) thereof soldered to a second point of connection (10). In the event of an error condition due to overheating, the bias operates to move the conductor (1) away from the second point of connection (10), severing the soldered joint in the process, whereby the circuit is opened. According to the present invention, the point of connection (10) is formed by a terminal stud (12), and the end (23) of the conductor (1) needing to be soldered to the terminal stud (12) is shaped in such manner that a sufficiently large soldered joint (16) requiring wetting by the solder (15) is developed.

  • Patent number: 5875706
Abstract: A food processing apparatus with a base unit (1) which has at least two separate mounts (2, 3), each for one processing bowl (4, 6), with one drive member (7, 8) positioned in the area of each of the mounts (2, 3) and being in driving connection with an electric motor, is equipped with a safety device. This safety device serves the purpose of ensuring that only one processing bowl (4) at a time can be mounted on the appliance in an operating position, while the safety device inhibits a second processing bowl (6) from being accommodated in the other mount (3). To accomplish this, a safety element (11) is provided which is adjustable between two blocking positions. When the safety element (11) is in the one position, the first mount (2) is rendered unable to accommodate a processing bowl while the second mount (3) is enabled to accommodate a processing bowl.

  • Patent number: 5550343
Abstract: The invention is directed to a switch (2) for electrically powered apparatus, in particular for domestic appliances, with a rotary actuating shaft (4) transmitting the switching operation from a rotary handle (5) to a switch contact (15, 16), the actuating shaft (4) including a longitudinal bore (24) in which an actuating rod (5) is axially movably disposed, an end of said rod being adapted to be urged into the actuating shaft (4) for a depth of some length in opposition to a restoring force and converting an axial motion into a radial switching operation of control cams (23) acting on the switch contacts (15, 16). This provides a convenient short-time operation in a simple manner.

  • Patent number: 5395060
Abstract: A multi-purpose kitchen appliance comprising a first container closable by a cover in which a first driven working utensil can be inserted for processing food stuffs which can be coupled via a first connector with a drive spindle projecting through the base of the electric motor in the multi-purpose kitchen appliance. A second, smaller container may be inserted into the first container. A second utensil in the second container can be coupled to the drive spindle via a second connector. A sealing lip is arranged on the edge of the aperture of the second container which, when the latter is inserted in the first container, forms a seal on the underside of the cover when the cover is fitted on the first container.

  • Patent number: 5297475
Abstract: The invention is directed to a multi-purpose kitchen apparatus for processing foods, with a container (1) having arranged in a bore (20) in a container bottom (2) a bearing sleeve (4) in which a tool shaft (5) extending through the container bottom (2, 3) is journalled for rotary movement therein. The one end (35) of the tool shaft (5) is adapted to be connected with a drive motor through a coupling means (7), while the other (23) end is adapted be connected through a coupling member (8) with a processing tool for processing the foodstuffs. The bearing sleeve (4) is secured within the bore (20) of the container bottom (2, 3) by means of at least one resilient intermediate ring (9, 10) radially surrounding the bearing sleeve (4). This results in a bearing arrangement which affords particular ease of manufacture, is stable and has a low noise level.

  • Patent number: 5244275
Abstract: The invention is directed to an electrically powered food processing apparatus for processing and preparing any type of food, receiving in a housing (1) an electric motor (8) rotating a processing tool located in a working vessel for processing the food material. The electric motor (8) is supplied with cooling air by means of a motor-driven impeller (38) rotatably arranged in the housing (1), and the electric motor (8) and the impeller (38) are disposed in an air duct (4) providing at its one end an air inlet (45) and at its other end an air outlet (46). To obtain a food processor of a construction as compact as possible, yet with a high motor output rating, while at the same time motor noise is reduced, the impeller (38) is driven by an additional electrically powered impeller motor (30) arranged in the housing (1) separate from the electric motor (8), and the impeller motor (30) is not connected to the supply until a predeterminable power input of the electric motor (8) is exceeded.

  • Patent number: 4922464
Abstract: The invention is directed to an electrically powered portable mixer for processing food, including a housing 1 accommodating a motor 19, a gear box 20 and a receptacle means 21 connected to the gear box 20 for the fastening of processing tools 5. Provided on the housing 1 and extending transversely to the longitudinal axis 24 of the housing 1 is a handle 2 for holding the portable mixer, with air vents 11 which ensure the passage of cooling air through the housing 1 being provided on the housing 1 for cooling the motor 19. To cool the motor 19, the handle 2 incorporate at least one air duct 22 in which the cooling air is conducted towards the housing from outside and/or away from the housing 1.
