  • Patent number: 6375171
Abstract: The invention relates to a vibration damper between a housing (4), which holds an internal combustion engine, and a handle (3) fixed on the housing (4). The handle (3) is for holding and guiding the motor-driven chain saw (2) during use thereof. The vibration damper (1) is a coil spring (5) which is fixed at a first end (10) thereof with an attachment element (7) to the handle (3) and, at a second end (20), the coil spring is fixed with a further attachment element (30) to the housing. A part turn of the end (10, 20) of the coil spring (5) is held form-tightly to the attachment element (7, 30) in the direction of its longitudinal center axis (25). To provide a torsion-free assembly of the coil spring, it is provided that the coil spring (5) can be assembled from one of its ends (20) between the handle (3) and the housing (4) and be secured at least at one of its ends (20) to the attachment element (30) against a rotational movement in the peripheral direction.

  • Patent number: 6192840
Abstract: The invention relates to a drive unit of a portable handheld work apparatus such a motor-driven chain saw having an internal combustion engine. The crankshaft of the engine drives a tool of the work apparatus and a fan wheel. The fan wheel is held within a fan housing on a drive pin of the crankshaft. A crankcase is rigidly connected to a cylinder of the engine and is made of a metal material. The crankcase is configured of two parts and the axis of the crankshaft lies in the partition plane of the crankcase housing parts which can be connected to each other. A metallic chassis of the drive unit includes a crankcase sump as one of the crankcase halves and has a flange surface lying essentially perpendicularly to the crankshaft axis. The flange surface is at least defined in sections by the free-lying end of the crankcase sump. In this way, the weight and the manufacturing costs of the work apparatus are reduced.

  • Patent number: 5983846
Abstract: The invention is directed to a two-stroke engine for a portable handheld work apparatus such as a motor-driven chain saw. The engine includes a cylinder housing and a crankshaft journalled in shaft bearings. The cylinder housing is closed by a crankcase cover. Half shells are formed in the cylinder housing and the crankcase cover to accommodate the shaft bearings. Overflow channels are formed in the wall of the cylinder and lead from the crankcase to the combustion chamber. The overflow channels are open at their ends facing toward the crankcase cover and interrupt the support surface of the half shells formed in the cylinder housing. An adequate support of a small crankshaft bearing is ensured for an arrangement of several overflow channels. This is achieved in that the half shells are configured with a significantly larger diameter than the outer diameter of the shaft bearing and a support shell is seated in the free space between the half shell and the shaft bearing.

  • Patent number: 5582146
Abstract: A suction air filter for an internal combustion engine of a hand-held working tool has a housing having an inlet opening for air sucked in and an outlet opening for the clean air exiting the suction air filter and supplied as combustion air to a suction channel of the internal combustion engine. The housing includes a plurality of filter chambers arranged in series one after another in a direction of air flow from the inlet opening to the outlet opening. Each one of the filter chambers has at least one filter body positioned therein through which filter body the air flows.

  • Patent number: 5407012
Abstract: The invention is directed to a portable handheld edge cutter and especially an edge cutter for maintaining the edges of a lawn. The edge cutter includes a drive motor and a rotating knife as well as a drive shaft between the motor and the knife. The knife end of the drive shaft is mounted in a support which is structurally part of the housing. The housing overlaps the knife at a predetermined region. A wheel or roller supports the housing on the ground. A projection is provided on the housing which indicates to the operator the precise direction in which the rotating knife is moved and so acts as a direction device for the operator.

  • Patent number: 5320281
Abstract: The invention is directed to a housing for a high-pressure cleaning apparatus for accommodating a high-pressure pump, drive motor and other components of the apparatus coacting therewith. The apparatus is equipped with a cleaning lance which is held on the housing. The housing includes a trough-like lower housing half having a base wall adapted to support the pump and the motor and a trough-like upper housing half for closing off and covering the lower housing. The upper housing half has a top wall defining an outer side facing away from said base wall and a carrying handle is disposed on this outer side to enable an operator to carry the apparatus. The carrying handle is configured as a holder for holding the cleaning lance.
