  • Publication number: 20060137785
Abstract: A gas-generating composition is adapted for use in safety devices for vehicles. The composition essentially of 20 to 25% by weight of an organic fuel, 30 to 60% by weight ammonium perchlorate, 5 to 30% by weight of a chloride scavenger and conventional processing aids in a proportion of 0 to 10% by weight. An iron compound is used as said chloride scavenger, which is converted into gaseous iron(III)-chloride upon reaction of the composition.

  • Publication number: 20060130694
Abstract: A pyrotechnic composition, in particular for use in safety devices for motor vehicles, has an auto-ignition temperature between 140 and 180 degrees C., and comprises at least 3-nitro-1,2,4-triazol-5-one (NTO) in a proportion of 20 to 60% by weight. The NTO is stabilized by at least one of the following measures: (a) the NTO has an average grain size of 200 to 600 ?m; and (b) the composition comprises an oil in an effective quantity for stabilizing the NTO. The pyrotechnic composition is adapted for use in a safety device, in particular in a safety device in motor vehicles.

  • Publication number: 20050189054
Abstract: A method for inflating a gas bag of a safety arrangement in vehicles provides a gas generator which contains a pyrotechnic propellant comprising an organic fuel and ammonium perchlorate as an oxidizing agent. The pyrotechnic propellant, after its activation, releases a gas which has an amount of hydrochloric acid. A coating is arranged on the inner surface of the gas bag, on which the hydrochloric acid is neutralized or absorbed.

  • Patent number: 6592778
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing propellant compacts for use in gas generators for safety devices in motor vehicles by extrusion, comprising the following steps: mixing the constituents of the propellant and stirring the mixture into a paste with a solvent so as to form a plasticizable mass, extruding the plasticizable mass in order to form propellant compacts, and drying the propellant compacts in order to remove the solvent, a thickening agent which increases the viscosity being added to the solvent prior to pasting in a proportion of from 0.1 to 10% by weight, relative to the solvent, and the dried propellant compacts having a density of at least 70% of the theoretical density. The invention further relates to propellant compacts obtainable in accordance with this method.
