A preamplifier is installed as nearest to an ion cyclotron resonance (ICR) trap as possible at a detector part in the mass spectrometer, and thermal noise generated at the preamplifier is minimized by means of a cryo-cooling system to increase a signal-to-noise ratio of ion detection signals such that an ultra-low amount of specimen can be detected, which was impossible in the related art.

  • Resonant burner and starting mechanism therefor

    Abstract: In the disclosed resonant burner a common battery energizes the ignition and an air jump. The latter drives fuel, delivered to a reservoir from a fuel tank, to a carburetor nozzle. The reservoir is a narrow tube, whose fluid can easily be driven by little pressure and with low volumes of air, but is sufficiently long to contain enough fuel to start the burner.

When the valve is shut off to terminate flow of the active substance through the valve to the burner conduit, a spring action in the valve tends to withdraw the active substance from the conduit by creating a suction effect therein.
