Patent number: 4518285Abstract: A control system for longwall mining roof supports which are controlled in dependence on the position of the mining machine at any time. All of the roof supports are connected to a central computer via common conductors. Each of the roof supports includes a control unit having a code corresponding to the number of that support. This code serves as an address and enables the central computer to transmit its control command signals positively, in response to the mining machine position signals, through an appropriate address control unit for a particular roof support. In order to enable roof supports to be actuated manually also, the control units of all of the roof supports are connected to the central computer by two common conductors, one of which carries an automatic enable signal and the other of which carries a manual enable signal.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1983Date of Patent: May 21, 1985Assignee: Gebr. Patent number: 4260191Abstract: A signal is generated which varies with the distance between a mining machine and a cable trolley coupled by a rope to a winch disposed toward the lower drift of an inclined mine seam. The cable trolley moves along the face of the mine seam to guide and loop a trailing cable and/or water hose extending onto the mining machine. The winch is controlled in response to the signal for exerting tension inversely proportional to the distance between the cable trolley and the mining machine. The winch is driven by an electric torque motor or a hydraulic motor. In a further embodiment, the signal which is generated to control the winch varies the pull by the trailing cable and/or water hose upon the mining machine. This signal is used for controlling the winch in the same manner, namely, inversely proportional to the distance between the cable trolley and the mining machine.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1979Date of Patent: April 7, 1981Assignee: Gebr. Patent number: 4217622Abstract: Mining equipment of the type operably dependent on the voltage and/or the phase of electric current is isolated from electric supply mains by an OFF switch in a control circuit before a current supply relay drops out. The OFF switch and an ON switch are coupled in a monitoring conductor which supplies current to a photo-electronic coupler. An output signal from the coupler is delivered to a battery fed integrator to provide a control signal to an output relay for a switch in the current supply line on mining equipment. The ON switch is bridged by a normally closed switch coupled to a relay which is responsive to operating current fed to the machine. In a second embodiment, thermal sensing elements for motor windings on the machine provide a signal to battery fed relays to open a normally closed switch in a circuit bridging the photo-electronic coupler.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1978Date of Patent: August 12, 1980Assignee: Gebr.
