  • Patent number: 4101573
Abstract: Methyldichlorophosphane is made by reacting methane with phosphorus trichloride in contact with carbon tetrachloride at temperatures higher than 500.degree. C. To this end, the starting reactant mixture is admixed with 2 to 7 mol % of reaction-initiating carbon tetrachloride, based on phosphorus trichloride; the carbon tetrachloride is reacted to an extent of 50 to 80% by varying the reaction temperature within the range 550.degree. to 650.degree. C for constant residence times of 0.1 to 0.9 second; and resulting reaction mixture containing a residual analytically detectable 20 to 50% proportion of the carbon tetrachloride used is condensed out.

  • Patent number: 4100442
Abstract: A spring member is resin bonded to a piezoelectric material body at one end nd at the other end carries the oscillating electrode of a Kelvin probe capacitor used for electron work function measurement under vacuum. The piezoelectric material body can be either a piezoelectric crystal or a piezoceramic. An alternating voltage causes it to vibrate the spring member at a resonant frequency, so that a still greater amplitude of vibration is produced at the electrode. A superimposed d-c voltage is applied to the piezoelectric material body to set the average spacing between the movable reference electrode and the fixed sample electrode. A polyurethane-based resin provides vacuum-proof bonding. The piezoelectric material body and spring are mounted in a tube providing electrostatic shielding.

  • Patent number: 4098195
Abstract: A self-propelled carriage traveling along a track, e.g. within a printing plant, carries a number of flat articles such as printing forms suspended from a common supporting bar with the aid of releasable holders gripping that bar in transversely spaced engagement positions. As the carriage passes a receiving station such as a printing press constituting the destination of one or more of these articles on one holder, a magnetic retreiver aligned with the corresponding engagement position releases the holder from the bar and lets it drop onto a transverse guide rod sloping down to an unloading point. The holder may include a locking mechanism for securing the article or articles in place during travel, an extension of this mechanism preventing the mounting of the holder on the supporting bar in an unlocked position.

  • Patent number: 4098010
Abstract: The invention relates to a ski-boot and to a ski-binding to be used in combination therewith. The ski-boot is provided with a rolling sole curved continuously in the longitudinal direction, by means of which walking is greatly facilitated, even in the case of a boot having a rigid upper and sole. The binding comprises moulded parts adapted to the curved rolling sole of the ski-boot, upon which the said ski-boot rests when the ski is in use, and which fill up, at least locally, the free space between the flat surface of the ski and the curved rolling sole; or it may have engaging parts which engage positively in recesses or grooves in the sole of the ski-boot, thus securing the ski-boot immovably to the ski. The moulded parts, which may fill up the free space between the surface of the ski and the curved rolling sole, may be either integral functioning parts of the ski-binding or accessories fitted to bindings of conventional design.

  • Patent number: 4097739
Abstract: A scanning, corpuscular-beam microscope which includes a beam deflection system comprising a first stage for deflecting the beam out of the optical axis of the microscope and a second stage, disposed after the first stage along the beam path, for deflecting the beam towards the optical axis of the microscope. A first objective lens having a short focal length is disposed after the second beam deflection stage along the beam path for focusing the beam on a specimen. The improvement of the invention comprises the provision of a second objective lens having a long focal length which is disposed above the first objective lens along the beam path. The second objective lens is excited for low magnification of the specimen by the microscope and redirects the deflected beam in a direction approximately parallel to the microscope axis and focuses the beam on the specimen.

  • Patent number: 4097740
Abstract: A method and apparatus for focusing the objective lens of a scanning transmission-type corpuscular-beam microscope. In the method, the beam of the microscope is deflected by a deflection system excited in sawtooth fashion and generates a raster consisting of parallel lines on the specimen to be examined. The microscope includes a beam radiation detector disposed behind the specimen along the beam path which generates an output signal which controls the brightness of a picture tube monitor operated synchronously with the raster. The improvement of the invention comprises the steps of measuring, during the exposure of a specimen point, partial beam radiation intensities in the cone of the beam at two points disposed symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal axis of the beam cone by means of the detector, the effective input area of the detector being smaller than the cross-sectional area of the cone of the beam at the same height in the microscope.

  • Patent number: 4096421
Abstract: The pressing machine includes a pressing ram, a drive arrangement for moving the ram from a starting position to an end-of-stroke position and back to the starting position and includes an electric drive motor. A control arrangement establishes the end-of-stroke position for the ram. The control arrangement includes a direction-reversing circuit connected to the drive arrangement for reversing the direction in which the drive arrangement moves the ram and includes a direction-reversing relay arrangement having a current path for activating current. A controllable electronic switch is connected to the activating current path for controlling the activation of the direction-reversing relay arrangement. A control-signal-generating circuit controls the conductivity of the electronic switch by generating and applying to the control input of the electronic switch a control signal dependent at least upon the loading of the drive motor.
