Patent number: 10750574Abstract: The invention proposes to introduce a method for a Radio Access Network for providing “Local Switching” between call legs of a call. Within said method the Radio Access Network receives a call identifier for a leg of a call from a Core Network to be handled by the Radio Access Network. The Radio Access Network stores said received call identifier, compares said received call identifier with stored call identifiers for call legs of calls via said Radio Access Network. If said received call identifier matches a stored call identifier the Radio Access Networks establish local switching of call legs identified by the matching call identifier. In an alternative embodiment, the invention proposes to introduce a method for a Core Network for providing local switching for call legs of a call. Within said method the Core Network receives or generates a call identifier for a leg of a call. The Core Network stores said received call identifier and identifies a respective Radio Access Network for said leg of said call.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2009Date of Patent: August 18, 2020Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Dirk Kampmann, Karl Hellwig, Philip Hodges, Paul Schliwa-Bertling

Patent number: 10651976Abstract: In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, disclosed is a method and an apparatus thereof for removing jitter introduced by a packet switched network. Each received audio frame comprises a primary portion and a redundancy portion. The redundancy portion comprises a partial redundant copy of a previous frame that is offset by k frames. If a frame n is lost, a frame n+k that comprises the partial redundant copy of the lost frame n, is located in a jitter buffer. Based on the frame n+k, a substitute frame n? substituting the lost frame n is created and a substitution indicator of the substitute frame n? is set to indicate that the redundancy portion of the substitute fame n? should be used in decoding.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2018Date of Patent: May 12, 2020Assignee: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET LM ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Stefan Bruhn, Tomas Frankkila, Karl Hellwig

Patent number: 9497758Abstract: The Invention proposes a method for a Control Node (MSC) of a Core Network (CN) for late activation of a User Plane between a Radio Station (eNodeB, NodeB, BTS) and a control node (RNC, BSC) of a Radio Access Network (eUTRAN, UTRAN, URAN, GERAN, GRAN, RAN) of a call to be set-up. Furthermore, a method for a control node of a Radio Access Network for late activation of a User Plane between a Radio Station and a control node of a Radio Access of a call to be set-up is proposed MSC receives an indication that a call involving said MSC and a BSC of a RAN shall be set-up. MSC gains knowledge that said BSC is adapted for a late User Plane Activation. MSC instructs said BSC that the User Plane between the Radio Station and the BSC/RNC shall be reserved. Upon detecting that the User Plane of said call shall be through connected, MSC instructs the BSC to activate the reserved User Plane between Radio Station and BSC. In addition corresponding nodes are proposed.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2009Date of Patent: November 15, 2016Assignee: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSONInventors: Karl Hellwig, Dirk Kampmann, Majid Manosouri

Patent number: 9439109Abstract: A network entity for a radio communication network includes a processing unit which causes a first resource and a second resource for a terrestrial interface of the radio network to be seized, where the first resource is distinct and different from the second resource. The entity includes a network interface through which a handover request or an assignment request message identifying the first and the second resource is sent. A network entity for a radio communication network includes a network interface which receives a handover request message or an assignment request message identifying a first resource and a second resource. The first resource is distinct and different from the second resource. The entity includes a processing unit that selects one of the first and second resources, allocates a radio channel associated with the handover or assignment, selects a bearer for a terrestrial interface and seizes resources for the interface.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2008Date of Patent: September 6, 2016Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Dirk Kampmann, Karl Hellwig, Paul Schliwa-Bertling

Patent number: 9060350Abstract: The invention relates to the setting up of a connection between an originating terminal and a terminating terminal. Both terminals may connect via the same access network. The access network accesses a core network through an access gateway. The access gateway transmits and/or receives connection set-up signalling transmitted along a signalling path through at least the core network. Using an information element in the connection set-up signalling, information on media plane access needs of nodes in the signalling path is collected and provided for determining whether a local shortcut of a media path can be established in the access network.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2013Date of Patent: June 16, 2015Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Karl Hellwig, Philip Hodges, Dirk Kampmann

Patent number: 8913979Abstract: A network node (4), referred to as answering point (4), performs a method including a triggering procedure (s22) for triggering the transmission, towards a mobile station (2), of an instruction message (12a) including an instruction to start a new emergency communication towards the answering point (4). The triggering procedure (s22) includes sending (s226), towards the mobile station (2), a trigger message (12b). The mobile station (2) performs a method including a receiving procedure (s28) and a starting procedure (s30). The receiving procedure (s28) includes receiving the instruction message (12a) including the instruction to start a new emergency communication towards the answering point (4), and the starting procedure (s30) includes starting a new emergency communication towards the answering point (4). This enables to re-establish an emergency communication between the answering point (4) and the mobile station (2). The invention also relates to network nodes, mobile stations and computer programs.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2012Date of Patent: December 16, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Karl Hellwig, Timo Helin, Christian Van de Pol

Patent number: 8817617Abstract: A system and method control a setup of a connection in a communication network including a set of nodes, such as Mobile Switching Centers (MSCs) and Media Gateways (MGWs). In one example, a speech connection is established between MGWs subject to the control of the MSCs, which can selectively activate or deactivate codecs along the connection. The codecs potentially affect connection quality by differing amounts. A Total Accumulated Impairment (TAI) element is forwarded between the MSCs and updated by the MSCs that include individual partially accumulated impairment values corresponding to the supported codec candidates. Each individual indicator value provides information representative of the expected accumulated impairment along a candidate connection path leading up to, and including, the corresponding codec.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2005Date of Patent: August 26, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Karl Hellwig, Dirk Kampmann, Alexandru Hlibiciuc
