  • Patent number: 5523354
Abstract: Crosslinked polymers are prepared by reacting mutually reactive side groups, comprising reacting polymer chains containing carbonyl side groups, optionally protected, and 1,2- or 1,3-diol side groups, optionally protected, in the presence of an acid catalyst, thereby forming crosslinking bridges between polymer chains. Crosslinked polymers are also prepared in which polymer chains are bonded together by a low molecular weight crosslinking agent.

  • Patent number: 5492944
Abstract: A powdery bonding agent for paints which is soluble in pure aliphatic compounds, and which is in the form of powdery polymerizate particles, which consists of, at least on the particle surface, of a copolymerizate formed of: (i) 60 to 95 percent by weight of units of at least one hardening monomer selected from the group consisting of (A) isobutylmethacrylate and (B) cycloalkylmethacrylate; and (ii) 5 to 40 percent by weight of units of at least one aliphatic-substance-solubilizing monomer selected from the group consisting of (C) alkylmethacrylates having 6 to 18 carbon atoms in the alkyl residue, where the units of isobutylmethacrylate account for no more than 60 percent by weight and the units of cycloalkylmethacrylates account for no less than 10 percent by weight, based on, in each case, the weight of the copolymerizate.

  • Patent number: 5468800
Abstract: Aqueous binders for liquid coating agents which contain a film-forming, aqueous plastic dispersion and a crosslinking component can be stored in ready-to-use form and quickly harden after being processed into a coating, at room temperature or a temperature just slightly above, forming a hard, dry, crosslinkable film. The plastic dispersion is an emulsion polymer with polymerized units of an ethylenically-unsaturated, radically polymerizable monomer with an alkylene urea side group. The crosslinking agent contains at least two, possibly protected, aldehyde groups.

  • Patent number: 5185404
Abstract: This invention relates to the flow improvement of compositions containing PVC to be modified for impact resistance, such as PVC-ABS polymer blends, during their processing, for example during injection molding, in processing machines by polymers based on alkyl methacrylate that are made up of at least 50 wt. % methyl methacrylate and with 2 to 50 wt. % C.sub.2-8 -alkyl methacrylates as monomers, with molecular weights Mw in the range of 2,000 to .ltoreq.20,000 g/mol.
