    Abstract: A method and system for controlling the distribution of a proprietary object in telecommunications network includes detecting a proprietary object in the telecommunications network, storing the proprietary object in a data structure, associating a flag in the data structure with the proprietary object, and limiting access to the proprietary object based on the associated flag. In various aspects of the invention, the proprietary object is a ring tone, a graphic file, or an audio file.
