  • Patent number: 6223702
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine comprising an engine block consisting of a crankcase, at least one cylinder sleeve extending from the crankcase and a coolant jacket disposed around the cylinder sleeve or sleeves and a cylinder head mounted on the engine block, the coolant jacket is a separate component consisting of a material lighter than the normally used cast iron jacket and is firmly engaged between the crankcase and the cylinder head which is mounted onto the cylinder sleeve or sleeves.

  • Patent number: 6131543
Abstract: In an oil pan for an internal combustion engine particularly for use with a motor vehicle, the oil pan consists of an outer latticed girder structure of a light-weight high-strength material and an inner thin-walled shell of plastic material forming an integral oil pan structure.

  • Patent number: 6070563
Abstract: In an engine block of an internal combustion engine having a clutch housing provided with cut-outs, a thin-walled liner is fitted into the clutch housing to cover the cut-outs so as to provide a clutch housing structure of a relatively low weight.

  • Patent number: 6065439
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine with an engine block, a cylinder head with a camshaft mounted on the engine block, a crankshaft mounted on the engine block opposite the cylinder head and a camshaft timing drive interconnecting the crankshaft and the camshaft, a camshaft timing drive enclosure is disposed at one end of the engine and fully encloses the camshaft timing drive, and the enclosure has extensions extending over the side walls of the engine block and covering openings formed in the side walls of the engine block providing for a light-weight arrangement with noise attenuating properties.

  • Patent number: 6053142
Abstract: In a crankcase of an internal combustion engine with lower and upper crankcase parts joined together along a separation plane extending through the axis of crankshaft bearings mounted in the transverse walls of the crankcase, the upper crankcase part has side walls with cut-outs formed therein and a cup-shaped member is disposed within the crank chamber formed between the transverse walls of the crankcase to cover the cut-outs. The cup-shaped member has an opening adjacent the respective cylinder of a cylinder block extending from the upper crankcase for accommodating a connecting rod extending between the crankshaft and a piston in the respective cylinder of the cylinder block.

  • Patent number: 4971264
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the continuous changing of reels on continuously operating stationary winding stations for strand-like materials are disclosed. A reel changing apparatus having at least two reel receiving stations is provided. A full reel being wound on a winding station is removed from the winding station by a first reel receiving station of the reel changing apparatus which continues to rotate the removed reel at operating speed after reel removal. Strand-like material continues to be wound on the removed reel. A second reel receiving station of the reel changing apparatus which is rotating an empty reel at operating speed places the empty reel on the winding station from which the full reel had been removed. The empty reel rotates on the winding station at operating speed. The strand-like material is then cut and transferred to the empty reel rotating on the winding station. Reel change has been accomplished without interrupting the winding of the strand-like material.

  • Patent number: 4936521
Abstract: In a winding machine where material is wound onto a non-rotating spool by a flyer that revolves around the spool, a device for moving, clamping, and releasing the spool moves the spool into position for winding, traverses the spool axially as the flyer rotates around the spool to properly distribute the material on the spool, and moves the spool away from the winding position. The device also clamps the spool as it moves the spool into position for winding and unclamps the spool as it moves the spool away from the winding position.

  • Patent number: 4098467
Abstract: Filamentary material is continuously wound on a pair of rotating spools, provided with feed means for excursively drawing the material to the spools and a transfer device for changing the feed of the material from one spool to the other. The transfer device is moved from association with the spool around which the material is being first wound to the spool around which the material is to be next wound in advance of the actual changeover of feed of said material from one spool to the other.
