  • Patent number: 5797914
Abstract: A bone screw for use in oral, maxofacial, and cranial surgery. The bone screw includes a screw head and body portion. The body portion includes a body tip, the body portion having a single flute being recessed in the area of the body tip and by the area enveloping the thread at the body tip being convex in shape. By this combination of features a bone screw is produced which is very easy to screw in, self-boring and self-tapping.

  • Patent number: 5665092
Abstract: A marker for surgical procedures which permits an operating surgeon to mark the place to be operated on accurately in a manner which is as free of pain as possible for the patient, and has a tubular guide cannula (1), an introduction tube (2), and a marking pin (3) which is connected to a flexible bar (4), the bar (4) being adapted to be introduced into the introduction tube (2) from its proximal end (5) by such an amount that it protrudes at the distal end (6) of the introduction tube (2). The marking pin (3) can be supported on the proximal end (5) of the introduction tube (2). The introduction tube (2) with the bar (4) therein and the attached marking pin (3) can be introduced via the distal end (8) of the guide cannula (1) into the latter by such an amount that the proximal end (5) of the introduction tube (2) is located in the region of the proximal end (7) of the guide cannula (1), and the marking pin (3) extends out of the proximal end (7) of the guide cannula (1).

  • Patent number: 5394457
Abstract: A device for marking body sites for imaging medical examinations, such as nuclear spin resonance tomography (NMR), computed tomography (CT), roentgen ray analysis (X-ray), or positron emission tomography (PET), comprises fixtures (10) which are adapted to be fastened to the body and/or to a stereotaxic means or a mask arrangement. Markers (18) containing a substance (20) which provides sharp contrast in the generation of images are adapted to be slid selectively into those fixtures. The fixtures are made of a material which does not disturb the imaging, with at least two different imaging examination procedures.

  • Patent number: 5263980
Abstract: A device for securing artificial body parts, in particular ears, noses and eyes, to a support 12 secured in turn to a bone 10 comprises a post 24 connectable rigidly to the support 12. Rotatably mounted on the post is a rotary member 26 which has a recess 30 for a wire. The artificial body part can be secured to the wire by means of a clamp, clip or the like.

  • Patent number: 5201737
Abstract: A plate for covering a drill hole in a skull cap and for fixing a cranial bone cover comprises a plurality of vanes (16a-16e) extending radially with respect to a center (12) and slots (20a-20e) between the vanes. For receiving bone screws holes (18a-18e) are provided in the respective region of the outer periphery of the vanes.

  • Patent number: 4763548
Abstract: A screwdriver is provided which engages the head of the screw, and also grips the screw. The screwdriving and gripping assemblage may be readily interchanged with another in the handle of the screwdriver. Opening and closing of gripping jaws is effective by the sliding of an outer sleeve which surrounds another sleeve of which the gripping jaws form a part, and which other sleeve is slidable on the shaft of the screwdriver. The handle comprises a front part and a rear part which are rotatably connected together for rotation of the forward part and of the screwdriver shaft, while the rear part is held fixed.

  • Patent number: 4587963
Abstract: To hold mating bone parts or sections together during osteosynthesis, the ends of a piece of wire for holding the bone parts together are passed through narrow boreholes of one or more plates and are deformed at that section to retain them in the boreholes. The wire is subjected by means of tightening means to a desired tractive force and is deformed by means of deformation means. The tightening means and the deformation means cooperate to place the wire under traction and deform the same where it issues from the boreholes in the plate or plates. The deformation means operate like pliers in which the tightening means is located. The tightening means incorporates a shaft which can be driven with an adjustable torque and, by means of a freewheeling coupling, the shaft is mounted in a manner so that it can be rotated only in one direction.
