  • Patent number: 5216246
Abstract: An interlock system for a machine cover including an optical sensor providing a cover open signal, a housing secured to the cover and defining a hollow cavity communicating with the optical path with the cover closed, a reflector fixed to one end of the cavity to reflect light to the sensor with the cover closed, a wall forming part of the housing and disposed in an interference relationship with the optical path for blocking light with the cover open, the length of the optical path with the cover open being less than the length of the optical path with the cover closed, and circuitry to trigger the optical sensor to provide light pulses at a predetermined frequency.

  • Patent number: 5213317
Abstract: An apparatus which adhesively binds a set of sheets by applying a strip having an adhesive to one surface thereof to the spine of the set. The apparatus includes a compiling station which holds at least one set of sheets. A transport advances the set of copy sheets from the compiling station to the bind and to a receiving station. The transport is movable from a non-operative position, coupling the compiling station to the receiving station, to an operative position coupling the compiling station to the binder. In addition, there is a manual insertion station located at the operative position enabling a set of sheets to be inserted into the transport when the transport is positioned in the operative position. The transport is then adapted to advance the manually inserted set of sheets to the binder which then binds the manually inserted set of sheets to one another.

  • Patent number: 4739362
Abstract: An improved transfer station baffle arrangement provided with first and second baffles, the first baffle provided with a curved sheet supporting surface imparting a bow to sheets passing thereby, the second baffle normally biasing the sheets against the first baffle, and biasable out of position with respect thereto. A flexible lip may be provided on the second baffle to absorb spring force energy in sheets passing through the baffle arrangement as the direction of sheet travel is changed.

  • Patent number: 4412740
Abstract: A document handling apparatus for a duplicating machine or copier is disclosed and includes a document supply tray, a turnaround roller and the exposure platen arranged in a general horizontal configuration wherein all operating areas and separate transports are available for operator observation and jam clearances. The turnaround roller permits return of document sheets to the platen in an inverted orientation to permit copying of duplex document sheets. The rotational speed for this operation may be significantly increased relative to the processing speed of the copier and the normal feeding speeds of the document sheets from the supply tray to the platen in order to maximize throughput of the copier. For normal return of the document sheets for the platen area, the rotational speed of the roller may be relatively high compared to the document feeding speed, thereby minimizing time losses due to machine pitch spacings between document sheet changes.
