  • Patent number: 6855176
Abstract: A method for purifying substances through emulsion crystallisation is described, whereby (a) an emulsion of organic liquid droplets in a continuous water phase containing the impure substance is formed; (b) the emulsion is super-saturated in the substance; (c) crystallisation of the substance in the water phase is induced; (d) the crystals of the substance are isolated from the from emulsion, yielding an emulsion-filtrate; (e) additional impure substance is dissolved in the emulsion-filtrate; and (f) steps (b)-(d) are repeated with the emulsion obtained from step (e).

  • Patent number: 6428583
Abstract: A crystallization process is described for separating a desired substance from an aggregate mixture in which an emulsion of droplets in a continuous phase containing the aggregate mixture is formed and supersaturated, characterized in that the emulsion is seeded with seed crystals of the desired substance and seed crystals of at least one other substance in the aggregate mixture to effect crystallization of the desired substance and the other substance(s) in the continuous phase. Also described are substances separated by the process, and devices for carrying out the process.

  • Patent number: 6383233
Abstract: A process is described for separating a desired substance from an aggregate mixture in which process a three-phase dispersion is formed, the first phase comprising droplets phase comprising a liquid transport phase, and the third phase comprising a surface upon which the desired substance can crystallize, whereby a chemical potential exists for crystal growth of the desired substance in the third phase thereby creating a flow of the desired substance from the first phase through the second phase to the third phase where the desired substance crystallizes, characterized in that the Gibb's free enthalpy of formation (&Dgr;G) of the droplets is <0.

  • Patent number: 5578111
Abstract: A process is described for the separation of a mixture of substances by sorption of the mixture's components on two different sorption agents, which are individually and independently adjustable in their sorption properties, and is performed in a manner by which the mixture of substances to be separated is introduced into a separation chamber between the surfaces of the sorption agents, and in which the separation chamber is occupied by a gap medium, in which the mixture's components can be dissolved and/or dispersed and/or evaporated, while the phases containing the sorption agents move in opposing directions, and the separated components of the mixture held on the sorption agents are recovered after passage through the separation path. This process is characterized in that the separation chamber is formed by at least two or several hollow, concentrically superimposed cylindrical disks Z.sub.A and Z.sub.B, which are filled with structural elements, and which contain separation media Ph.sub.A and Ph.sub.

  • Patent number: 4417112
Abstract: The pivotal switching arm of a "swivel post" type load break switch carries, in addition to a blade contact, a U-shaped sliding block type conducting driver which has an elongated elastically expandable slot that engages the ratchet head of the rectilinearly movable switch pin of a current quenching device mounted on the fixed contact post. To control the spring constant of the slot, an enlarged opening is provided at one end of the slot which reduces the cross-section of the driver. At the other end of the slot, an enlargement serves to release the ratchet head when the switch opens. The driver enables rectilinear quenching devices to be used in conjunction with the curvilinear motion of the switching arm.
