  • Patent number: 6598530
Abstract: A plurality of flexible printing plates can be secured on a peripheral surface of a cylinder in a rotary printing press. The cylinder has several plate end clamping devices that can be actuated to release only selected ends of the flexible plates. This facilitates the sequential release or securement of the plates in a desired order.

  • Patent number: 6561094
Abstract: A flexible printing plate with bent suspension legs is secured on a cylinder of a printing press by utilization of a base body located in a cylinder groove. The base body supports flexible clamping elements which can engage the suspension legs. The base body may be formed by a plurality of short base bodies to facilitate removal and replacement of the base body.

  • Patent number: 6557469
Abstract: A device for fixing a flexible plate having angled or beveled suspension edges to a cylinder utilizes a plurality of fastening elements located in a cylinder groove situated radially inwardly of a fastening slit. The fastening elements are engageable with the suspension legs under the influence of spring forces. Separate fastening elements can be used to engage the leading plate suspension leg depending on the direction of rotation of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6543358
Abstract: A device for clamping and/or jamming flexible plate beveled suspension legs in a fastening slit of a cylinder of a rotary printing press utilizes a three-armed pivotable profiled strip. This strip is positioned in a cylinder groove and a first arm of the strip can be pivoted by an inflatable air hose. A second arm of the strip can be pressed against a suspension leg in the fastening strip. A third arm of the strip carries a jamming roller that can engage the flexible plate's other suspension leg.

  • Patent number: 6439116
Abstract: An ink system of a rotary printing press includes a roller and a working doctor blade. The roller has a structured surface which may include helical or annular grooves.

  • Patent number: 6339988
Abstract: An inking cylinder or a dampening cylinder or roller for a rotary printing press is provided with a rubber cover that is adhered to the body of the cylinder or roller. A device for applying the rubber cover to the roller body includes a support table that is pivotably supported.

  • Patent number: 6335098
Abstract: An ink duct for use with a screen roller which comprises a working doctor blade and a closing doctor blade, wherein the working doctor blade has one or both sides partially or completely coated with an unreleasable coating of a low surface energy substance having a surface energy of 10 to 60 mN/m. This coating prevents disruptive ink deposits from forming on the side of the working doctor blade opposite to the ink retaining portion of the ink duct and reaching the doctored surface of the ink metering roller in an uncontrolled or random manner.

  • Patent number: 6289807
Abstract: An ink duct for a rotary printing press wherein all or some of the surfaces of the ink duct are permanently coated with a substance which has a low surface energy of between 10 and 60 mN/m. As well as enabling the ink duct to be cleaned easily, the blending of the printing ink is improved owing to the reduced frictional resistance of the coated parts, which in turn leads to more uniform use of the ink-metering roller.

  • Patent number: 6276275
Abstract: The density or size of an ink roll, which is formed in an ink fountain of a rotary printing press, is determined either directly or indirectly at several spaced locations. The measured values are then evaluated. A signal is generated to an ink feed device, or a warning signal can be transmitted in accordance with the size or density of the ink roll and its deviation from reference values.

  • Patent number: 6213017
Abstract: An ink duct is used with an ink-metering roller of a printing press. The ink duct includes doctor blades and is shiftable for pivoted movement between a working position and an emptying position with at least one of the doctor blades remaining in contact with the ink-metering roller. When the ink duct is in the emptying position, any printing ink in the ink duct is collected in a very low ink collection channel.

  • Patent number: 6199280
Abstract: Flexible plates are placed on a plate cylinder by inserting leading and trailing plate suspension legs into cooperating slits. Each of the plate suspension legs is pushed into the receiving slit by an insertion device that uses plate front and rear insertion sliders. These two insertion sliders each act as a guide for the adjacent slider.
