Patent number: 5314646Abstract: According to one example of embodiment of the invention a ceramic pre-moulding 81 of stable form is pressed from ceramic composition in powder form in a first isostatic pressing action, at least a part of its surface being formed in contact with rigid shaping surfaces 42. The pre-moulding 81 thus obtained is then--possibly after glazing-subjected to a higher pressure, in a further pressing operation on all sides and then fired in a ONCE-ONLY quick-firing method.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1991Date of Patent: May 24, 1994Assignee: Hutschenreuther AGInventors: Klaus Strobel, Karl Schwarzmeier

Patent number: 5120213Abstract: Apparatus for producing press-molded articles having a plurality of cavities therein includes a mold cavity which can be filled with a particulate molding compound, which mold cavity contains rods sheathed with expandable tubes which can be expanded by means of a fluid under pressure conveyed into the space between the rods and the tubes: this causes compaction of the molding compound to form the pressed article, which can be removed from the mold after reduction of the fluid pressure to allow detumescence of the expandable tubes and withdrawal of these from the mold cavity so that the mold cavity can be opened to remove the shaped pressed article.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1991Date of Patent: June 9, 1992Assignees: Hutschenreuther AG, Eugen BuhlerInventors: Eugen Buhler, Klaus Strobel, Karl Schwarzmeier

Patent number: 4788023Abstract: A process and apparatus for producing a dry-pressed molding from a particulate or granular molding material such as a ceramic molding composition in which the composition is initially drawn into a loading cavity by applying a vacuum thereto. The loading cavity is formed by a first mold half and a shooting head having a molding surface the shape of which determines the shape of a premolding which is formed upon entry of the composition into the loading cavity and sufficiently compressed to retain its shape after the shooting head has been removed to allow a second mold half to be positioned over the first mold half.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1986Date of Patent: November 29, 1988Assignee: Eugen Buhler and Hutschenreuther AGInventors: Eugen Buhler, Klaus Strobel, Karl Schwarzmeier

Patent number: 4719070Abstract: A process of and a molding press for producing flat moldings comprising a plurality of press molds arranged in series with each other, with each press mold having relatively movable mold parts. In the process effecting relative movement of the mold parts of each of the press molds to an open position and introducing particulate molding material into the mold cavities so formed, and then simultaneously effecting relative movement of the mold parts of each press mold to a closed position in which the molding material in each mold cavity is pressed to form a flat molding. Subsequently, effecting relative movement of the mold parts of each press mold to a position in which the flat moldings are removed from the mold cavities.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1985Date of Patent: January 12, 1988Assignees: Hutschenreuther AG, Eugen BuhlerInventors: Klaus Strobel, Karl Schwarzmeier, Eugen Buhler

Patent number: 4704082Abstract: The invention concerns an isostatic press mold for producing moldings from powdery ceramic material. The mold comprises two mold parts which are movable relative to one another between a mold-closed position and a mold-open position and which, in the mold-closed position, define between them a mold cavity. On at least one of the mold parts, there is a press diaphragm which on one side defines part of the limiting surface of the mold cavity and on the other side is subjected to a pressure fluid. On its said other side, that is to say on its side facing away from the mold cavity, the press diaphragm is designed with a plurality of recess spaces so that the press mold can be deformed, while at the same time reducing the internal stresses occurring in it.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1986Date of Patent: November 3, 1987Assignees: Hutschenreuther AG, Eugen BuhlerInventors: Eugen Buhler, Klaus Strobel, Karl Schwarzmeier

Patent number: 4588368Abstract: In an apparatus for producing molded articles from a pourable compound, such as an oxide-ceramic compound, for example a porcelain compound, an injection chamber is formed between an isostatic compression molding tool and an injection chamber. A suction opening is connected to the injection chamber. The pourable compound is supplied through an inlet opening. A fluidizing air inlet line is positioned in the compound inlet opening and it is movable relative to the inlet opening so that it can be placed in an open or closed position for admitting or blocking flow of the compound into the injection chamber.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1984Date of Patent: May 13, 1986Assignees: Eugen Buhler, Hutschenreuther AGInventors: Eugen Buhler, Klaus Strobel, Karl Schwarzmeier

Patent number: 4560336Abstract: Apparatus for producing moldings from a dry, particulate or granular material such as a ceramic molding composition, comprises a first mold half carried on the base of a press, while a vacuum shooting head, a second mold half and a removal head are carried on a movable carriage supported by a press head of the press. The carriage is displaceable transversely of the pressing direction so that the vacuum shooting head, the second mold half, and the removal head can be successively brought into alignment with the first mold half to allow the molding process to be performed rapidly and continuously without long gaps in the successive pressing stages.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1984Date of Patent: December 24, 1985Assignees: Eugen Buhler, Hutschenreuther AGInventors: Eugen Buhler, Klaus Strobel, Karl Schwarzmeier

Patent number: 4544345Abstract: In the production of molded articles from a pourable substance, such as a porcelain substance, a hollow mold space is formed between a pair of horizontally displaceable compression mold parts. In the closed molding position, the mold parts are is spaced relation and form an annular gap laterally enclosing the mold space. An annular member forms a closure for the gap. The pourable substance is introduced into a passage through the closure member and through the gap into the mold space. A vacuum system is provided in the closure member in communication with the mold space during the step of filling the pourable substance into the mold space.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1982Date of Patent: October 1, 1985Assignees: Eugen Buhler, Hutschenreuther AGInventors: Eugen Buhler, Klaus Strobel, Karl Schwarzmeier

Patent number: 4482515Abstract: In the production of molded articles from a pourable compound, such as an oxide ceramic compound, for example, a porcelain compound, an injection chamber is formed between an isostatic compression molding tool and a superposed injection head, negative pressure conditions are established within the injection chamber. The pourable compound is fluidized and is drawn into the injection chamber by the negative pressure. Subsequently, the compound is isostatically compressed while the negative pressure conditions are maintained during at least the initial phase of the compressing operation. A closing member is positioned at the opening into the injection chamber through which the pourable compound flows. The closing member is displaceable between an open position admitting flow and a closed position blocking flow into the injection chamber. In the closed position, the surface of the closing member facing into the injection chamber forms a continuation of the adjacent surface of the injection chamber.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1982Date of Patent: November 13, 1984Assignees: Eugen Buhler, Hutschenreuther AGInventors: Eugen Buhler, Klaus Strobel, Karl Schwarzmeier

Patent number: 4473526Abstract: In a method of manufacturing dry-pressed molded articles from essentially dry, pourable ceramic metal or carbon-containing molding compound in a mold of one or more parts, it is proposed to generate a negative pressure through the mold wall in the hollow space of the mold and, by means of the pressure difference generated as a result, to propel molding compound which is under pressure, for example, atmospheric pressure, through an injection opening into the hollow space of the mold and to precompress the molding compound in the mold while deaerating the molding compound, and that subsequently, the pneumatically precompressed molding compound is compression molded into a molded article having the desired final density.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 1981Date of Patent: September 25, 1984Assignees: Eugen Buhler, Hutschenreuther AGInventors: Eugen Buhler, Klaus Strobel, Karl Schwarzmeier
