  • Patent number: 6707304
Abstract: Devices and methods are disclosed for the contactless detection of a bar-shaped or wire-shaped processing electrode of a machine tool such as a spark erosion machine. The detection is based on measuring an impedance change in the measuring area, which is caused by the processing electrode moving through the measuring area. The impedance change is measured by one or more measuring electrodes disposed in the measuring area.

  • Patent number: 6646220
Abstract: Devices and methods for threading a wire electrode in a wire erosion machine are disclosed. A feed-through channel is provided for producing a fluid jet within which the machining electrode is guided. One or more control devices are provided for varying the cross section of the feed-through channel and, thus, the cross section of the fluid jet.

  • Patent number: 5866865
Abstract: A wire direction changer assembly is disclosed for installation in the wire path system of a wire electrode spark erosion machine with a wire entrance port, a wire discharge port, an essentially tube or tunnel wire guide channel connecting to both ports along a curved path; and a suction nozzle disposed in the region of the wire discharge port for providing a fluid flow through the wire guide channel. These features provide an exceptionally trouble-free fluid-supported wire direction changer of the electrode wire, while at the same time ensuring trouble-free automatic wire threading.

  • Patent number: 5824985
Abstract: An electroerosion apparatus is disclosed having an upper and a lower tiltable electrode guide assembly, each are independently tiltable about a first and a second tilt axis. Both tilt axes are each associated with tilt drives. Each tilt drive includes a servo motor mounted outside the machining zone and connected to the tiltable electrode guide assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4778973
Abstract: A wire guidance arrangement for guiding a wire electrode of a spark erosion machine has several replaceable wire guides, which are mutually spaced to thereby form individual erosion zones. The individual wire guides are held by spring tension in corresponding openings of a guide plate, which rest on a base block. The common plane of the guide plate and the base block forms a reference plane on which are axially centered the undersides of wire guidance members of the individual wire guides. Even in the case of a greater wire electrode fixing length, this always ensures a satisfactory guidance of the wire electrode. In addition, the individual wire guides can be simply replaced without any adjustment being necessary.

  • Patent number: 4751364
Abstract: Wire cutting apparatus which includes a mechanism for conveying an electrode and cutting device having rotary cutting elements and a tender tool. A post generator is electrically connected to the cutting elements and the counter tool for purposes of supplying power to the spark erosion machine. The cutting elements are electrically insulated with respect to the drive shaft thereof and the service of the counter tool is electrically insulated relative to the mounting support thereof. Additionally, there is provided an electrical connection which constantly forces the rotary cutting elements and the counter tool to the electrical potential of the electrode.

  • Patent number: 4709130
Abstract: An apparatus for severing a strip-like or wire-like electrode of a spark erosion machine has a belt conveyor formed by two belts positioned face-to-face and having formed in the belts corresponding cutting openings. Cutting elements and pressure plates engage through said cutting openings and severe the wire guided and conveyed between the belts. During cutting, the wire is held between the two belts and is subsequently conveyed towards a disposal container. The belts, cutting elements and pressure plates are operated synchronously so that the cutting openings are synchronized with the action of the cutting elements and pressure plates.
