  • Patent number: 5914994
Abstract: A storage basket, a storage rack and a method are provided for the compact storage of fuel elements and control rods of a nuclear power plant. The storage basket includes a plurality of inserts for receiving a fuel element. The inserts are disposed in such a way as to form a cruciform gap for receiving a control rod. Four fuel elements as well as one control rod of a boiling water nuclear power plant can be intermediately stored in a carrying well of a fuel element storage rack in a particularly compact and combined way by placing inserts in such a manner as to form a storage basket. A checkered configuration of the carrying wells of the fuel element storage rack permits intermediate positions between the carrying wells to also be supplied with one control rod and four fuel elements.

  • Patent number: 5905770
Abstract: A storage framework for nuclear reactor fuel elements includes a baseplate on which a plurality of structural wells of essentially rectangular cross section are fastened. The structural wells stand upright on the baseplate and in each case are disposed approximately diagonally opposite one another in a checkered manner. Structural wells located diagonally opposite one another in each case span an interspace. A neutron-absorbing structure with boron-treated steel is disposed in the interspace and/or in the structural wells, is displaceable relative to the structural wells and has plates made from boron-treated steel. The plates form an essentially rectangular absorber well which does not take on any load-bearing functions of the storage framework. The absorber well is fixed in its position by spacers, in particular edge beads, on the plates.

  • Patent number: 5668843
Abstract: A storage cage for the storage and transport of a plurality of fuel assemblies includes a baseplate having apertures formed therein. A plurality of casings each have an interior and each stand on the baseplate for receiving and storing a fuel assembly. Each of the casings is associated with at least one of the apertures leading into the interior of the casing for supplying and discharging cooling liquid. Each of the casings has a plurality of slots formed therein for supplying and discharging cooling gas. At least one supporting wall forms a load-bearing part with the baseplate and the casings are fastened to the at least one supporting wall.

  • Patent number: 5311563
Abstract: A storage frame for nuclear reactor fuel assemblies includes a base plate. A plurality of shafts stand erect on and are secured to the base plate. The shafts each have a substantially rectangular cross section and are disposed diagonally opposite one another in a checkerboard-type configuration. The shafts have longitudinal edges adjacent one another with an offset defining a gap therebetween. At least two connecting elements join at least some of the diagonally opposite shafts together along the longitudinal edges by spanning the gap. The at least two connecting elements include at least one first connecting element being associated with a respective pair of the longitudinal edges and have a high rigidity in a first direction parallel to the base plate. The at least two connecting elements also include at least one second connecting element being associated with a respective pair of the longitudinal edges and having a high rigidity in a second direction parallel to the base plate.
