  • Patent number: 5463467
Abstract: Method of detecting and evaluating analog photometric signals in a test carrier analysis system, and apparatus for carrying out the method. The test field of a test carrier is irradiated by a light source clocked in light-dark phases. The reflected light is detected by a measurement receiver over a measurement period having several light-dark phases, and integrated. An effective suppression of stray and secondary light, which permits measurement even without the hitherto conventional shielding from ambient light, is achieved by a method in which the sequence of the light and dark phases integrated over the measurement period is irregular in such a way that the Fourier-transformed frequency spectrum includes a large number of different frequencies. Each individual frequency therefore makes only a small contribution to the measurement result.

  • Patent number: 5071355
Abstract: A demonstration appliance has a human figure comprising a head region, a foot region with a convex downward or pointed foot surface, and a block whose height matches that of the foot region. The block comprises at least two, preferably three, superimposed separable layers and has an upward-opening recess for receiving the foot region. Said recess is formed by an opening in each layer. The opening in the first layer has an overdimension with respect to and around the lower part of the foot region which is lodged in the first layer, such that the latter alone loosely holds the foot region and, hence the figure, and, in the event of shaking, for example if the figure is lightly tapped, will not prevent tilting. The shape of the opening in the other layer is adapted to the corresponding part of the foot region so that the foot region lodged in the openings of the superimposed layers cannot be tilted from the vertical through an angle greater than +/-10.degree..

  • Patent number: 4720806
Abstract: A method and apparatus to centrally collect measured values of a variable parameter from each of a plurality of work stations, and so as to facilitate quality control. Each work stations includes a sensor for generating an output signal which is a function of the variable parameter, and the output signal is converted to digital signals, which represent discrete increments within the measuring range of the variable parameter. The digital signals are stored during a predetermined period of time in a memory unit so as to be available for periodic scanning by the central computer, after which the stored signals are cleared so that the memory unit is free to record the values during the next period of time. Also, circuitry is provided whereby only the extreme values of the output signalsd ar stored, together with the mean value, which are adequate to provide a complete statement of the quality of the process and product being monitored.

  • Patent number: 4625269
Abstract: In the high voltage d-c transmission (HGU) power station in a block circuit, a three-phase generator feeds a 12-pulse high voltage d-c transmission (HGU) short coupler through at least one shifting transformer which serves for forming voltages of two three-phase voltage systems phase-shifted relative to each other by 30.degree. el. As compared to a full transformer, the shifting transformer can be constructed for substantially less power, which reduces the cost and the losses of the station. While the voltages of the two phase-shifted voltage systems can be taken off at the external terminals of the secondary windings of the shifting transformer, the center taps of the secondary windings are acted upon by the generator voltage. Advantageously, the high voltage d-c transmission short coupler is formed of a multiplicity of parallel, electrically separate d-c circuits which can be fed by separate shifting transformers.

  • Patent number: 4429357
Abstract: In order to place into operation a group of power converters which are connected in series as concerns the direct-current mode and in parallel as concerns the alternating-current mode, of a power or current converter operating in a rectifying mode of a high-voltage direct-current transmission installation, the control pulses of the group of power converters to be placed into operation are set at a range of approximately 100 to 115 electrical degrees. The bypass or shunt switch of such group of power converters subsequently receives an opening command. The control pulses, after accomplishment of opening of the bypass or shunt switch are shifted in accordance with a predetermined linear ramp function in the rectifying range and thereafter the control pulses are delivered by means of a pole current regulator. The placement into operation of a power converter operating in the inverting mode is accomplished in a similar fashion.
