  • Patent number: 6360707
Abstract: An engagement relay for starters of internal combustion engines as proposed, with which a starter pinion is first shifted into the gear ring of the engine and then the starter motor is turned on. For gently rotating the starter pinion into the gear ring by means of the starter motor, it is proposed that the switch of the engagement relay be embodied as a switchover contact 54, which in the position of repose switches the starter motor via a resistor 39 and in the working position switches it directly to the electrical supply (plus 30), and then the resistor (3) is turned off.

  • Patent number: 6148781
Abstract: The starting device for starting an internal combustion engine includes a starter motor (12) with a pinion for cranking the internal combustion engine; a voltage source (40) for the starter motor; a starter relay (14) for connecting and disconnecting the voltage source to and from the starter motor and an electronic relay (32) for triggering the starter relay according to control signals from the motor controller (50). The electronic relay (32) is mounted on the starter motor or in the starter relay. The electronic relay (32) includes a power module (34) with a redundancy circuit including two transistors (144', 144") coupled with each other by a logic circuit for preventing starter operation when one of the two transistors is defective.

  • Patent number: 5677656
Abstract: An engaging relay for starter devices of internal combustion engines as a pull-in winding of which is to be switched on via an auxiliary relay. It is provided for the purpose of a space saving, cost effective arrangement and design of the auxiliary relay that the auxiliary relay is arranged in the contact space of the engaging relay. One end of its relay winding is electrically connected in this case to the magnet core, which conducts frame potential, of the engaging relay, and the other end is electrically connected to a connecting part fastened in the switch cover of the engaging relay. A starter switch for the internal combustion engine is to be connected to this connecting part, which is constructed as a terminal, in order to switch on the engaging relay via the auxiliary relay integrated in it.

  • Patent number: 5239954
Abstract: A starter protection circuit for a starting device of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle has a thermoswitch assignable to a starter, a relay which is activated by the thermoswitch when the thermoswitch is operative and interrupts a starter operation and a relay operating key which after assumption of a cold switching state of the thermoswitch can operate again the starter.
