  • Patent number: 6318269
Abstract: A projectile includes a fuze assembly which has a firing pin carrier supported for motion parallel to a longitudinal axis of the projectile; a firing pin secured to the firing pin carrier; a slide supported for motion transversely to the projectile longitudinal axis and having a safety position and a firing position; and a detonator mounted on the slide. The detonator is out of alignment with the firing pin in the safety position of the slide and is in alignment with the firing pin in the firing position of the slide. A holding shell is positioned in the projectile and is exposed to a force of an air current during projectile flight for causing the holding shell to fly off the projectile. A force-transmitting component connects the holding shell with the slide for displacing the slide from the safety position into the firing position upon movement of the holding shell away from the projectile.

  • Patent number: 6279480
Abstract: A firing pin assembly for mechanically igniting a warhead detonator of a projectile by being accelerated in a forward direction by inertia upon impact, includes a firing pin having a rearward firing pin part and a frontal firing pin part arranged in series with the rearward firing pin part as viewed in the forward direction. The assembly further has a firing pin spring urging the firing pin in a direction opposite to the forward direction, and a mechanical device positioned between the rearward firing pin part and the frontal firing pin part. The mechanical device includes a transmission arrangement for transmitting a forward motion of the rearward firing pin part to the frontal firing pin part with a stepped up transmission ratio whereby a forward motion of the rearward firing pin part through a first distance results in a forward motion of the frontal firing pin part, against the force of the firing pin spring, through a second distance which is greater than the first distance.

  • Patent number: 6253681
Abstract: An air-dropped ammunition includes an ammunition body having a rearward portion; a firing pin accommodated in the rearward portion; a stabilizing band being received in a folded state at least partially in the rearward portion of the ammunition body; and a device for securing the stabilizing band to the firing pin. The device includes a disk having an upturned rim. The disk engages face-to-face one of two overlapping ends of the stabilizing band, and the upturned rim is oriented away from the overlapping ends. The overlapping ends and the disk are firmly attached to the firing pin.
