  • Patent number: 5424469
Abstract: A process for preparing polyglycerol fatty acid ester mixtures in which a polyglycerol mixture of 0.1 to 20 wt % monoglycerol, 20 to 35 wt % diglycerol, 30 to 40 wt % triglycerol and 49.9 to 5 wt % tetra- and higher polyglycerols is reacted with one or more fatty acids, selected from the saturated C.sub.8 - to C.sub.18 -fatty acids (containing 0 to 15 wt % unsaturated fatty acids), in a molar ratio of the polyglycerol to the fatty acid component of 0.3:1.5 to 1.5:0.5 in the presence of at least one catalyst and at reduced pressure, by initially heating the reaction mixture to at least 140.degree. C. and reducing the pressure to at least 600 mbar and then heating the reaction mixture at a temperature from 140.degree. to 220.degree. C. and reducing the pressure from 600 to 10 mbar. After completion of the reaction, the resulting polyglycerol fatty acid ester mixture is cooled and optionally worked up and/or purified.

  • Patent number: 5264460
Abstract: A process for preparing a nonionic surfactant includes the steps of: cleaving at least one of the isopropylidene groups of an isopropylidene polyglycerol C.sub.6 -C.sub.22 -fatty acid or mono- or polyhydroxy fatty acid ester, by hydrolysis or ketal exchange, in the presence of acid, at a temperature in the range of about 20.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C., and at atmospheric, reduced or superatmospheric pressure, thereby regenerating hydroxyl groups on the polyglycerol; and recovering the resultant polyol ester nonionic surfactant. Such polyol ester surfactants are useful as emulsifiers, especially for preparing skin care or cosmetic formulations and paints and wood-preservation agents.

  • Patent number: 5130056
Abstract: The present invention relates to a washing agent, cleansing agent and/or toiletry containing at least one ionic and/or amphoteric surfactant and at least one C.sub.8 to C.sub.18 fatty acid monoester of diglycerol and/or C.sub.8 to C.sub.18 fatty acid diester of tetraglycerol as a constituent of the mixture, 2 to 30% by weight, perferably 10 to 20% by weight, of at least one fatty acid monoester of diglycerol and/or fatty acid diester of tetraglycerol, relative to the total surfactant content (100% by weight), being present in the surfactant mixture. The agent is employed together with certain compositions, in particular with a solvent, additives and the like. The invention also relates to the preparation of the washing agent, cleansing agent and/or toiletry and to its use as a shower preparation, bubble bath preparation, liquid hand cleanser or hair shampoo.

  • Patent number: 5024787
Abstract: A process for the preparation of fatty acid or hydroxy fatty acid esters of isopropylidene derivatives of a polyglycerol involves reacting C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl esters of C.sub.6 -C.sub.22 -fatty acids or mono- or polyhydroxy fatty acids in alkaline medium with one or more hydroxyl-containing isopropylidene derivatives of a polyglycerol. The resultant fatty acid or hydroxy fatty acid esters of mono- and/or diisopropylidene derivatives of polyglycerol are useful as intermediates for the preparation of nonionic surfactants, as solvents or solubilizing agents and for cosmetic formulations and skin care preparations.
