  • Patent number: 8803381
Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide an electric machine module include a housing. In some embodiments, the housing can include at least one end cap coupled to a central member. The housing can include a first axial end and a second axial end. The central member can include at least a portion of a coolant pipe, which can include end portions extending at least partially through the end cap. In some embodiments, an electric machine, which can include a stator assembly, can be positioned within the housing so that the coolant pipe is substantially coiled around at least a portion of an outer perimeter of the stator assembly.

  • Publication number: 20130076171
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a method of assembling an electric machine module, including assembling a stator core from a plurality of laminations. The stator core can include a plurality of slots, a first axial end, and a second axial end. The stator channels can be positioned through the stator core so that they can extend from the first axial end to the second axial end. The stator channels can include a first diameter. The method can provide forming a plurality of coolant members that include a second diameter that is less than the first diameter. The coolant members can be positioned within the plurality of stator channels and a pressurized fluid can be introduced into at least some of the coolant members to expand the coolant members within the stator channels so that second diameter is substantially similar to the first diameter.

  • Publication number: 20130076167
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide an electric machine module including a housing. The housing can include a first and a second end cap. The first end cap can comprise a first and a second manifold and an inlet and outlet. The inlet and outlet can be in fluid communication with the first manifold and the second manifold, respectively. The second end cap can include a third manifold. The module can include an electric machine operatively coupled to the housing. The electric machine can include a stator assembly. The stator assembly can comprise at least one first and at last one second coolant member disposed within the stator assembly. The electric machine can be coupled to the housing so that the first coolant member can be in fluid communication with the first and third manifolds and the second coolant member can be in fluid communication with the second and third manifolds.
