Patent number: 10745072Abstract: The invention relates to a bicycle, with a bicycle seat assembly rotatably connected to the bicycle. Rotation movement of the bicycle seat assembly is possible, seen in the driving direction, to the left and to the right side and is independent of the steering movement of the bicycle. The axis of rotation of the bicycle seat assembly is arranged in front of the axis of the bottom bracket, seen in the driving direction, and the seating surface of the bicycle seat is arranged behind the axis of the bottom bracket, seen in the driving direction. The rotatable bicycle seat assembly enables an upright riding position by dodging the cyclist's leg pedaling downwards through a rotational movement. At the same time it supports the hip side of the other leg. The driver is supported by the bicycle seat even in the upright riding position.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2016Date of Patent: August 18, 2020Inventor: Karsten Bettin

Patent number: 9371108Abstract: The disclosure relates to a folding device with locking mechanism for connecting components which is intended for a bicycle and has, on one side, a swing-action articulation and, on the other side, a locking mechanism which contains a locking assembly, which is connected in a rotatable manner to a supporting element and is braced against a curved clamping surface of a clamping element arranged on the opposite side, the clamping surface running eccentrically in relation to the axis of rotation of the locking assembly. The extended axis of rotation of the locking assembly, in the locked state of the folding device, is located within the circle described by the radius of curvature of the clamping surface, and this allows a large clamping displacement. An adjusting nut adjusts the pressure to which the clamping surface is subjected in the locked state by the locking assembly.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2012Date of Patent: June 21, 2016Inventor: Karsten Bettin

Patent number: 9180930Abstract: A transmission unit includes a planetary gearing system including a ring gear connected to a bicycle frame, a planet carrier with planet gears, and at least one sun gear that is engaged with the planet gears. A rear wheel shaft is coaxial with respect to the sun gear. A driving mechanism is operatively rotationally engaged with the planet carrier. At least one bearing is configured to bear the rear wheel shaft with respect to the bicycle frame and is arranged between the planetary gearing system and a seat of the rear wheel from an axial perspective. The bearing bears the rear wheel shaft inside from a radial perspective and is connected, either directly or indirectly, to the bicycle frame, externally from a radial perspective. The transmission unit provides at least one transmission ratio between a driving mechanism and the rear wheel shaft.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2012Date of Patent: November 10, 2015Inventor: Karsten Bettin

Patent number: 9132883Abstract: A rear-wheel drive for a bicycle or a trailer bike comprises an output sprocket of a chain drive, a rear-wheel shaft, and a driving mechanism being supported outside to the bicycle frame. The rear-wheel shaft is supported only on one side of the driving in a supporting manner relative to the bicycle frame. The driving mechanism on the side facing the bicycle frame is not, as commonly known, supported relative to the rear wheel shaft but relative to the bicycle frame. That creates the required space for arranging a freewheel clutch, that fulfills the strength requirements for transmitting the occurring torques even when using sprockets with only a few teeth. Thus, short distances between the rear wheel and the bottom bracket and single-arm suspensions in the bicycle frame can be implemented together with the implementation of suitable developments of the chain drive for small running wheels.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2012Date of Patent: September 15, 2015Inventor: Karsten Bettin

Patent number: 9051021Abstract: The invention relates to a compact, foldable bike with small wheels and a bicycle drive for driving the rear wheel, comprising a traction mechanism or a spur-gear transmission, driven by a crank, the distance of the bottom-bracket axle to the rear-wheel axle being larger than half the outer diameter of the rear wheel. The bicycle exhibits a front frame part and a rear frame part that are rotatably connected to each other by a folding hinge that is aligned at right angles to the ground plane, whereby the front frame part, the rear frame part, and a front-wheel fork, in the folded state, seen laterally, form the sides of a triangle having the following characteristic combination of features: The bicycle is ridden while standing up, the driving wheel and the output wheel of the bicycle drive are arranged on the same side of the bicycle frame and the steering tube exhibits a lower and an upper steering tube, that in the folded state of the bicycle are folded-in laterally beside the front wheel.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2012Date of Patent: June 9, 2015Inventor: Karsten Bettin
