  • Publication number: 20040088949
Abstract: Successive coupons of a series of coupons obtained as a result of repeatedly severing a web of coherent coupons are conveyed to an assembling station where the coupons are assembled with collars of the type employed in hinged lid cigarette packs. The thus assembled collars and coupons are thereupon confined between the inner and outer envelopes of successive hinged lid cigarette packs.

  • Patent number: 6505732
Abstract: An apparatus for transporting folding packaging material forms in the tobacco-processing industry, particularly carton forms for cigarette hard packs that have been scored or pre-punched along fold lines, from a feed station to a processing station. A rotary table is mounted for rotation about an essentially vertical axis. The rotary table includes at least one receiving platform having oppositely located lateral holders defining limits for the packaging material. At least one of the lateral holders is movable from a feeding position into a holding position relative to the oppositely-located lateral holder.

  • Patent number: 6422282
Abstract: Apparatus for manipulating uniting bands having pairs of adhesive sides ahead of a splicer wherein the leader of a fresh web carrying one or more uniting bands is attached to the trailing end of an expiring web employs a base carrying a first reel which supplies a strip-shaped carrier of uniting bands, with one side of each uniting band adhering to the carrier, and a second reel which collects successive increments of the carrier subsequent to their separation from the uniting bands. The base further supports a spring-biased clamping member and is pivotable between a first position in which the carrier is remote from the leader of a fresh web, and intermediate position in which the clamping member begins to bias the leader of the fresh web against a back support, and a second position in which the other side(s) of a selected number of uniting bands contacts or contact the leader of the fresh web.

  • Publication number: 20020056258
Abstract: Succesive lowermost coupons of a stack in a magazine are withdrawn by suction heads borne by a turnable suction wheel and a pivotable arm to be advanced along one or more arcuate first guides into a second guide which directs the coupons to predetermined positions beneath discrete U-shaped collars of the type forming part of so-called hinged lid packs for confinement of plain or filter cigarettes or other smokers' products. A coupon which has assumed such predetermined position is thereupon expelled from the second guide and is confined, together with the collar and the pack, in an outer envelope of cardboard or the like. An advantage of the method and apparatus is that the collar need not be lifted during advancement of a coupon to its predetermined position to thus reduce the likelihood of misalignment of the collar and the coupon relative to each other preparatory to and during their confinement in the outer envelope of the ultimate product.

  • Publication number: 20020033001
Abstract: A device and method are provided for transferring foldable blanks used in the tobacco-processing industry for cigarette hard-shell packs that are pre-embossed or pre-stamped along folding lines, from a transfer station to a processing station. At least one fixing element is movable from a transfer position to a fixing position during the transfer to secure a collar on a block-shaped article group deposited on the foldable blank.

  • Patent number: 5730277
Abstract: Successive block-shaped arrays of cigarettes are advanced by one or more pushers on an endless conveyor through an elongated channel, defined by a stationary guide, on their way into a receptacle of a wrapping unit for the arrays. The pusher or pushers are decelerated during advancement through the discharge end of the channel, and the arrays are braked during such deceleration to maintain them in uninterrupted contact with the pusher or with the respective pushers until the arrays complete their movement into a predetermined portion of the receptacle. For example, the arrays can be braked by one or more mechanical devices and/or by one or more pneumatic devices.

  • Patent number: 5529164
Abstract: Cigarettes or other rod-shaped articles of the tobacco processing industry are transported sideways from a source along an elongated horizontal path into at least one downwardly extending second path. If the inlet of a second path is to be sealed from the adjacent outlet portion of the horizontal path, a partition is moved across the inlet in the general direction of advancement of articles along the first path. The partition includes a carrier which is reciprocable along a slightly upwardly and forwardly inclined track, and a flexible belt which is tensioned by one or more springs and is trained over the leader of the carrier. A variable-capacity reservoir is located above the horizontal path opposite the inlet of each second path to accept some of the articles which are being moved back into the first path in response to movement of the partition across the inlet of the adjacent second path.
